From Sciacca to Sorrento. The setter of ShedirPharma Sorrento is “made in the South”, entrusted to the expert born in ’96 Calogero Tulone. Technique and personality to spare, the green and white neo-setter has emerged in A2 among the ranks of Messaggerie Bacco Catania. He then remained in his native Sicily, but moved to Avimecc Modica in A3, where he reached the round of 32 promotion play-offs in 2021, losing to Tuscania. In the 2021/2022 season, his first parenthesis in Campania, choosing Falù Ottaviano, while in the following championship he moved to Aurispa Libellula Lecce where he reached the round of 16 promotion play-offs, falling again at the hands of the bête noire Tuscania. Last year Tulone played for the first time in the White Group with San Donà, reaching the final stage of the play-offs, where Virtus Fano prevailed at the end of two authentic battles with no holds barred. The Sicilian director thus leaves Sorrento again, to try to realize his dream.
After the near promotion in San Donà, you start again from Sorrento where you find a solid and ambitious club. What pushed you to accept President Ruggiero’s project?
“President Ruggiero immediately gave me confidence, explaining the project and the ambitions of the company, which wants to take a step further to achieve exciting results. The club’s goal is to have a top championship, and it fits perfectly with my aspirations. This year I reached the play-off final without being able to win it, and I want to redeem myself and play such tough matches again.”
After having seen you as an opponent in your past in Ottaviano and Lecce, we will finally see you on our side at PalAtigliana. How much desire is there to start this adventure, cement the understanding with your teammates and feel the warmth of the public on your side?
“Every time I came to Sorrento as an opponent, I always felt the warmth of the PalAtigliana crowd. I was struck by the affection that the fans are able to convey to help the team at all times, always transforming themselves into the seventh man on the pitch. I can’t wait to finally have the support of these wonderful fans on my side, and resume training as soon as possible. Even though I finished the last season a few weeks ago, I eagerly await the start of the new one. I do sport with my heart. I love volleyball, and even if it’s only a couple of months off, I already want to get my hands on an indoor ball again.”
