DEL MONTE® MVP: Francesco Corrado (OmiFer Palmi)
OmiFer Palmi wins the Del Monte® Coppa Italia A3, beating the hosts Smartsystem Fano 3-1 in the final in the sold out Palasport Allende. Intense and hard-fought match, which lasted almost two and a half hours: Palmi takes the first set 25-27 and the second 21-25, but Fano fuels up and grows in the third, the longest of all, which ends 34-32 in favor of hosts. In the fourth set OmiFer redeems itself and leaves no chance for its opponents, closing 16-25. A prestigious result for coach Porcino’s team, which takes home the first trophy in its history and qualifies for the Del Monte® Super Cup, scheduled for next March 30th against the team that will have scored the most points at the end of the Regular Season.
Del Monte® MVP of the match was spiker Francesco Corrado, author of 25 points (including 2 on serve and 4 blocks) and with an attack percentage of 61%. The player from the Calabrian team was awarded by Massimo Righi, President of the Serie A Volleyball League. Also worth mentioning is the extraordinary performance of the opposite number from Palma Stabrawa, who ended the match with 35 points and 56% in attack.
Letizia Genovese, Fipav councilor, and Franco Da Re, Lega Pallavolo Serie A councilor, awarded the second place, Smartsystem Fano. OmiFer Palmi, however, received the medals from the hands of Massimo Righi and Massimo Seri, mayor of Fano; the trophy was handed over to Captain Gitto by Massimo Righi himself and Letizia Genovese. The referees of the match also received an award in memory of the event, presented by the President of FIPAV Marche, Fabio Franchini.
Pietro Galdenzi (Smartsystem Fano): “It’s difficult to say what was missing today, but Palmi pushed from start to finish with his serve, so we must congratulate them. I don’t think we suffered the home court factor, that is, the fact of playing at home, in fact the public was a great support for us.”
Pawel Stabrawa (OmiFer Palmi): “It’s wonderful to win the Del Monte® Coppa Italia and I still don’t understand what happened, it will certainly take some time to realize. We were good at not giving up after the third set we lost with the advantage. I am happy to have given the first trophy to this club, these people and the team.”
