The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will open with the ceremony scheduled for 7.30pm tomorrow, Friday 26 July 2024, which will see athletes from all over the world compete in Parisian theatres. As regards men’s volleyball, there will be a good representation of athletes from the rosters of the Credem Banca Serie A teams, ready to compete, starting from the SuperLega Regular Season, for the 80th Championship.
There will be 35 athletes present in Paris who will take part in the 2024/25 Credem Banca Super League: approximately 1 athlete in 4 of the 156 players called up will play in the next Super League. Also considering last season’s squad, the percentage increases significantly: 1 player in 3 has in fact played in the 2023/24 Super League or will play in the 2024/25 one.
Some new faces, many players who have accustomed arenas across Italy to their games: we obviously start with the Italian national team, with De Giorgi’s 13 athletes (12 plus the reserve) who all play in Italy.
As far as Argentina is concerned, there will be two athletes who changed shirts in the summer: Luciano De Cecco moved to Valsa Group Modena, Agustin Loser married Sir Susa Vim Perugia’s project. From one South American nation to another: Fernando Kreling ‘Cachopa’, a cornerstone of Vero Volley Monza, will represent Brazil together with the new arrival at Itas Trentino, Flavio Gualberto.
Five Serie A athletes will wear the Canadian jersey: from the new signing of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza Stephen Maar through the opposite of Monza Arthur Szwarc, up to Eric Loeppky (who moved to Cucine Lube Civitanova in the summer) and Brodie Hofer, face new at Gioiella Prisma Taranto and first experience in Italy. Also for Danny Demianenko, one of the athletes who will wear the Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina jacket in the first, historic, SuperLega season of the Marche company, it will be the debut in the Italian championship.
From Canada to France: Antoine Brizard, Piacenza’s mainstay, will dribble for the French team, with Theo Faure (Cisterna Volley) in the opposite role and the new signing of Allianz Milano, Yacine Louati, among the spikers. In the center one of the most representative faces of Civitanova, Barthelemy Chinenyeze. For Germany the reserve is the new arrival in Taranto Jan Zimmermann, while among the Japanese there is Yuki Ishikawa, captain of the Japanese selection, who moved from Milan to Perugia in the summer, and Tatsunori Otsuka, spiker who has gone to fill out the ranks of the ‘Allianz.
