Eve day for Emma Villas Siena, who will return to play an official match at PalaEstra tomorrow evening at 8.30 pm. It will be the tenth day of the A2 series volleyball championship and Grottazzolina, the current leaders of the tournament and the only team unbeaten in the first nine days, will arrive in Viale Sclavo. The Marche team is first in the standings with 25 points under their belt, Siena is currently third in the rankings with 18 points. Coach Gianluca Graziosi’s team is fresh from a home tiebreak defeat against Cuneo; a match that still gave a small point to the Tuscan team, which confirmed third place.
The numbers put together by Grottazzolina are certainly important. Yuasa Battery also performed well on the last day of the tournament, with a 3-1 victory against Ravenna (30 points from Nielsen and 20 from Fedrizzi). There will be three players of the day wearing the Grottazzolina jersey tomorrow evening at PalaEstra: in addition to spiker Michele Fedrizzi, among the protagonists of the Yuasa Battery’s great start to the season, there are also center back Andrea Mattei and libero Andrea Marchisio.
On the eve of the match against Grottazzolina, the vice president of Emma Villas Siena Fabio Mechini and the setter of the white and blue team Thomas Nevot spoke. “The numbers say that it won’t be a simple match – these are Mechini’s words. – Grottazzolina has won nine out of nine races, is doing very well and has also grown since the start of the championship. They have excellent individuality and a very good overall team game. However, we must look at our part of the field and try to do everything as best we can. We must be more cynical, we must close the simplest balls perfectly and make even better use of those situations in which we do well. In the first set against Cuneo we started very well, then we weren’t able to continue that trend.”
“I hope that the team can react well after the defeat against Cuneo – continues the vice-president of Emma Villas Siena. – The Piedmontese team is a very good team, but we are too and we must continue to prove it tomorrow evening against the league leaders. In the last match we made a few too many mistakes, however we took a point for our ranking. We have a team with very good potential and also with some experience, I hope that against Grottazzolina we will be able to push at 100%. Our opponents of tomorrow have a complete roster and a very long bench with players who can make an excellent contribution. They are first, we will have to give something more than what we did on Sunday against Cuneo.”
