Palmi welcomes another familiar face among volleyball fans in the city: after the return of Alberto Amato, Omifer in fact hires the talented and powerful spiker Erminio Russo, 1.95 cm tall, one of the protagonists of the roster that centered the historic promotion to A3 in the 2018-19 season.
The athlete from Taranto, born in 1994, began his career in Volleyball Pulsano (TA), making the whole process of the youth team up to the first team, at just 16 years old: an experience that opened his career as a professional player. From then on, he wore the jersey of Volleyball Martina Franca and Virtus Potenza, both in B1, seasons interspersed with the short spell in Serie C with Volleyball Talsano (TA); passing through Sorrento, among the ranks of Folgore Massa Lubrense (B) to land, in 2017-18, in Serie A2, with the colors of Aurispa Alessano (LE). The following year, Russo lands for the first time in Palmi, winning the Serie B championship. Subsequently, he returns to Alessano, in A3; he then played for Genzano (RM), in Serie B, before returning to Palmi (A3) playing an excellent championship that saw Omifer enter the play-offs from third in the standings.
Last year, Russo instead played in Lecce, in Volley Galatone, a team with which he won the Serie B championship. Finally, the decision to marry the “Franco Tigano” project for the third time: “returning to Palmi – the player remarked – it’s like coming home, and it’s always very nice, I’m fond of it, also because it’s an environment where I’ve always felt good, with the club and with my teammates”. A choice, that of Russo, also motivated by the club’s ambitious prospects: “surely, – he highlighted – the project was another element that prompted me to come back here, because in any case Omifer is an ambitious club that every year has always fought to occupy the top places in the Serie A standings and, in fact, I can’t wait to play with my teammates, all high-level players, with some of them I already know myself, with others I will have the pleasure of doing it during the course of the championship”. The enthusiasm that surrounds the team and the presence of teammates of a certain stature are therefore elements that convinced Russo to return and contribute to such an important project and, certainly, his desire to play at his best fits perfectly with the company’s goal of achieving significant results.
