The opposite Yuri Romanò and libero Leonardo Scanferla will take part with the Italy shirt in the European championships which will begin on Monday 28 August in Bologna.

The two players of Gas Sales Bluenergy Volley Piacenza have been included by coach Ferdinando De Giorgi in the group of 14 who will wear the blue in search of a continental encore after the 2021 victory.

Nothing to do, however, for the atrocious red and white Fabrizio Gironi, who stayed with his teammates until the end but did not pass the last cut. Words of praise for him from technical commissioner De Giorgi.

“The last choice that remained to be made – he underlined – was the one on the opposite, I wanted to take advantage of the Wagner Memorial to have clearer ideas. The choice fell on Bovolenta, among our tasks there is also that of having to make choices, it makes me think that we coaches often feed dreams but unfortunately sometimes we also have to suspend them. I want to thank Gironi, who was important throughout the summer, he gave his soul at every moment. It was not easy to communicate this decision, but I really have to thank him for what he has given in this period. However, I would like to underline that these are choices that concern this competition, they are not failures”.

The European adventure for the men’s national team will start tomorrow 24 August: the team will meet in Bologna, home of the opening match on Monday 28 August against Belgium.

Italy’s journey, which will start from the Unipol Arena in Bologna, will continue to Perugia and Ancona with the matches scheduled in Pool A which will see Italy face Switzerland, Serbia, Germany, Belgium and Estonia.
