First world championship medal of the summer at Delta Group Porto Viro: Mattia Eccher is Vice-Champion of the Under 21 World. The middle blocker born in 2003, already the Under 20 European Champion last year, climbed to the second step of the podium at the World Championships in his category held in Manama, Bahrain.
After picking up five wins out of six in the Qualifying Pools, also beating battleships Argentina and Brazil, and overcoming Bulgaria 3-1 in the semi-finals, the Azzurrini succumbed 3-2 to equal age Iran in the grand final of the tournament, at the end of a hard-fought race.
For Italy it is the eighth overall medal in the history of the U21 World Cup, the fourth silver.
Still on the subject of Delta Group athletes engaged with the national teams, now the wait is for Tommaso Barotto who, with the Under 19 selection, will first participate in the EYOF – European Youth Olympic Festival, from 23 to 29 July in Maribor in Slovenia, then, from 2nd to 11th August, at the category World Championships which will take place in San Juan, Argentina.
