Work in progress at PalaBarton where training continues for Sir Susa Vim Perugia.
Afternoon session for Angelo Lorenzetti’s Block Devils dedicated to technical-tactical work on the pitch and specific to some fundamentals. Perugia staff carefully analyzed last Sunday’s match against Catania and found, despite the team’s decent performance, several ideas for growth as is obvious in this very early phase of the season.
The victory against the Sicilian team allowed the Block Devils to continue their streak of consecutive victories in the regular season and, for numbers lovers, they have not lost in championship matches for 32 games in a row (last setback on 2 January 2022 at the tie break in Trento to date 661 days ago).
Numbers that are of no interest to Angelo Lorenzetti and his boys who are preparing for the first mini tour de force of the season which will see the Bianconeri engaged in the space of a week first on Sunday in Monza for the second day of the Super League, then on Tuesday and Wednesday in Biella for the Final Four of the Del Monte® Supercoppa and finally the following Sunday in Civitanova for the third of the championship.
However, the first stage of the Super League is now behind us, a day that saw some more predictable results and others less, but with the consideration to be made that the start of the season always mixes up the balance between the teams a bit.
In addition to Perugia, three-point victories came for Piacenza, who beat Padova at home with a round 3-0, showcasing the usual Simon (3 aces) and Romanò (12 points with 3 blocks), Verona, who conquered in four set Taranto with the Iranian opposite Amin on the shields (22 points with 58% in attack), and Monza who gave the result as an effect of the day by winning in three sets in Civitanova with 11 aces on the scoresheet (5 each for Maar and Takahashi ). Two matches ended in tie breaks with Modena coming from behind to win at the PalaPanini against Milan (20 for the Russian giant Sapozhkov, 14 for the eternal Juantorena) and the reigning champions Trento who, again in a comeback, conquered Cisterna (55 overall points for the high ball triad Michieletto-Lavia-Rychlicki).
On a general level, said of the 11 aces of Monza, the one obtained from the block by Milan in Modena was striking, with the Milanese scoring 21 times in the fundamental (10 for Piano, 5 for the other middle blocker Loser), while the best attack of the first day was precisely the one for Juventus orchestrated by Giannelli who finished with 60.3% team efficiency.
