On Boxing Day, the challenge between Cucine Lube Civitanova and Rana Verona is renewed for the turning point of the 2023/24 Regular Season in SuperLega Credem Banca. Scheduled at the Eurosuole Forum, on Tuesday 26 December (3.30 pm), a big match in the 11th round of the first leg which could also have an important impact on the quarter-final grid of the Del Monte® Coppa Italia. This is the challenge number 49 with the Scaligeri. There are 41 successes for the Cucineri against the 7 for the Venetians. Lube’s home victories are 23, with 70 sets won and 20 lost. Verona’s last success in the Marche dates back to March 19th, when Radostin Stoytchev’s men won the best of Game 1 of the Play Off Quarterfinals in three sets at the Eurosuole Forum.
Last season, the Cucineri met the Scaligeri on seven occasions. A victory for each side in the Regular Season, with a 3-1 comeback success for the red and whites within friendly walls in the first round and a final blow for the Veronese on their own pitch in the return. In the Play Offs, however, the Venetian sextet achieved the feat by conquering the Eurosuole Forum 3-0 and then repeating it at home in the tie break, then Lube put the turbo on and did nothing more wrong, winning 3-0 in front of their fans and impacting the series with a 3-1 privateer in the city of the Arena. Concrete bordering on cynicism, the Cucineri beat Verona 3-0 in the decisive match.
The hardest match between the two teams took place on January 5, 2012, on the 13th first leg of the Regular Season. On Venetian soil, Lube cameback to win the tie break with scores of 33-31, 21-25, 40-38 (tighter set in the previous ones), 14-25 and 9-15, for a total of 251 points.
In the history of precedents, there is a forfeit victory for the red and whites in the first round of 2002/03, when Verona fielded a player who had not yet registered. The easiest set won by Civitanova, however, ended 25-8 and coincided with the first set in the 3-0 home win on 2 February 2020, a season interrupted due to the health emergency.
