Off Monday for the boys of Sir Susa Vim Perugia.
After last night’s winning debut in the Super League against Farmitalia Catania, Angelo Lorenzetti granted 24 hours free to his players who will return to PalaBarton tomorrow morning to continue their development work and to prepare for Sunday’s treacherous away match at Mint True Volley Monza.
Rewinding yesterday’s tape, the “first” championship of the season was a great evening. A beautiful arena, a beautiful crowd, a Perugia team clearly in the process of running in, but already with an important attitude on the pitch, a rounded result which yields the first three points of the season and which was celebrated with the applause of the three thousand climbers at Pian di Massiano.
It was also the debut day for the new arrivals, both in the squad and in the staff. Two left their mark: that of Tim Held, making his debut in the Super League and immediately “covered” by the heat of PalaBarton with the series of three consecutive aces in the first set, and that of Angelo Lorenzetti, first official bench as Juventus coach.
“It was certainly a beautiful debut in the Super League,” says Tim Held himself. “I am very happy to have been able to lend a hand to the team and I thank the public who gave me a truly warm welcome. It was a good match for us. In this championship the word easy does not exist and going slowly is not possible. You always have to be careful, do your thing and do it well and we did that against Catania. We’ve all been together for a short time and considering this, I think we played a good game. Now we need to continue the path we have taken and remain positive also because next Sunday we go to Monza and then there is the Super Cup, a nice tour de force which we must arrive at in the best conditions.”
“I thank the public for the welcome given to me and the team”, are the words of coach Lorenzetti. “As far as the pitch is concerned, I would say that we showed and expressed what we managed to do in a week of training and the boys were willing. As had also happened to us in training, we struggled in the continuity of the serve and in managing the attack, especially in the break phase. There aren’t many break phases in volleyball and you have to make the most of them. It is clear that ours is a journey in which there are two parts. From one who has to be careful to take care of these kids who come from an important summer season which has also left its mark on some. On the other hand, the fact that, as they always say, this is the moment where we have to work but then we start immediately.
