Lega Volleyball Serie A and FIPAV, together with Save the Children, the international organization that has been fighting for over 100 years to save the lives of girls and boys and guarantee them a future, announce a charity initiative for the tragic earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria in the night between 5 and 6 February. Four autographed uniforms of the participants in the Final Four Del Monte® Coppa Italia will be donated to Save the Children.
The autographed official game uniforms will be delivered to the Save the Children Communication Director Filippo Ungaro, before the kick-off of the first match, the Semifinal at 15.00 between Sir Safety Susa Perugia and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza. From 28 February to 13 March, the autographed shirts will be auctioned on the Charity Stars platform (https://www.charitystars.com/finalecoppaitalia).
The terrible earthquake that struck 23 million people caused thousands of deaths and injuries. It is estimated that in Turkey alone over 5,000 buildings have collapsed in ten cities, including schools, hospitals and government structures. Save the Children teams immediately took action to respond to the emergency. The situation is very complex especially in Syria where families were already deeply tried by 12 years of conflict and the consequent enormous economic difficulties. Many struggled to feed their children, keep them warm and be able to send them to school. Now children in the country are even more at risk. For this reason, the Organization immediately intervened on the field, in the two countries, in close contact with partner organizations, to support the affected communities, especially children, the most vulnerable in disasters such as these. In Turkey and Syria, Save the Children plans to reach a total of 1.6 million people, including 675,000 children, through its earthquake response. This includes 1.1 million people, including 550,000 children in Syria, and 500,000 people, including 125,000 children, in Turkey.
Always sensitive to values such as solidarity, sharing and peace, the Serie A Volleyball League welcomed the initiative with the certainty of being able to further raise awareness of the emergency and to be able to provide a concrete contribution to fundraising, in particular for all children and the girls affected by the earthquake.
