The new opposite of the Gioiella Prisma Taranto does not hide behind a finger: Kyle Russel has all the awareness of the true “bomber” and the enthusiasm of the challenge, basic ingredients of his role, which mixed with a good team chemistry, will contribute to bring a lot of pepper for the new season in the team of President Bongiovanni.
1. What are the reasons that led you to accept the proposal of an engagement in Italy, and especially in Taranto?
When I started playing volleyball I always had one goal of mine, to play in the Italian Super League one day! So I’m very excited and grateful for this special opportunity with a club like Taranto to make one of my dreams come true! And also I’m looking forward to experience the Italian lifestyle and culture, especially in the south in a beautiful region like Puglia.
2. Have you followed the events of the ionic club in Superlega? What are your impressions?
I have followed the championship in the past seasons, I know how Taranto defended the colors of the city with his teeth while remaining in the top category. I remain focused and positive about my arrival in this team, and I can’t wait to get to Puglia to start building what we can achieve next season.
3. Will he be regarded as the heavy arm athlete, the one to whom the hot balls are given, is he aware of this? Does it scare you?
I know my role is to deal with difficult situations and deliver a heavy attack. Coming from the US, I am considered a physical gamer. I’m tall, can jump well, and have a strong arm, so I’ll bring a physical presence to the game! My serve is also one of my best characteristics as a player and I perform well in the big moments so it’s a challenge that appeals to me a lot!
4. What do you think of the team that is being set up, do you think a competitive Gioiella Prisma Taranto will be formed with room for improvement compared to the past?
I am thrilled to join the players who have been confirmed, who have excelled in recent years and the new signings for next season. I look forward to meeting them and starting to work with them and the staff. I hope this team continues to have good chemistry and brings even more success to the club and its supporters.
