Gold medal for Francesco Recine and Edoardo Caneschi at the XXXI Universiade which took place in China in Chengdu. Italy is therefore confirmed as the gold medal at the Universiade, defeating Poland 3-0 in the final (25-23, 25-18 and 28-26).
The team coached by Francesco Fanizza, after overcoming China in the semifinals, therefore also won the Final without leaving any set to their opponents: a match during which the blue team was the absolute protagonist and good in all the fundamentals.
For the men’s national team, this is the third gold medal in its history after the successes in 2019 at Eboli and in 1970 in Turin.
A success, the one obtained today in Chengdu, the result of the good performance of the whole team capable of always staying in the lead during the match and remaining concentrated in the key moments of the match.
Italy closes the University Games with a balance of five victories against Chinese Taipei, Brazil, Argentina, China and Poland and only one defeat in the group stage against Germany.
China rose to the third step of the podium, beating Iran 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-12) in the final for third and fourth place.
