Delta Group Porto Viro and Matteo Sperandio still together: the center back from Treviso, born in 1992, 200 centimeters tall, joins the Polesine club for the fifth consecutive season.
With the physical problems that had tormented him in 2021/2022 behind him, last year Sperandio took back, with interest, the role of absolute protagonist on the taraflex. In what was his eighth Serie A2 Credem Banca championship (also three seasons in SuperLega and two in A3 on his curriculum vitae), he totaled, including the Italian Cup and the playoffs, 28 appearances, 175 points and obviously a nice nest egg of walls winners, 71.
If the absolute figure earned him eighth place in the ranking of specialists in this fundamental, the average of blocks per set (0.79) instead place him on the third step of the podium. Translated into words, “Mr. Muro” has returned to his level, those, to be clear, of the first two seasons in Porto Viro or the year of his promotion to the SuperLega with Sora, in 2015/2016.
Matteo Sperandio’s words after the contract extension: “I am very happy with this renewal, I thank the club that continues to place its trust in me. It had never happened to me to stay for five years in the same team, so I can well say it, Delta is the most important club of my career and for many reasons. I made the decision to stay with my heart and my mind, I feel that my ‘task’ here is not over yet, I can do at least another year at high levels with this shirt: I still want to get involved, to win matches and to give my contribution to make the club grow from all points of view”.
“Last season was very important for me – continues Sperandio -, I was coming from a year in which I had practically always been stopped and I didn’t know what level I could return to, or if I would be able to play all the games. Gritting my teeth, I managed to be there most of the time, but I don’t think I’ve ever reached 100% of my physical potential, in fact, I’d say I stopped at 70%. That’s why this summer I’m continuing to do therapies and work in the gym, to try to feel good immediately next year”.
Sperandio’s personal relaunch coincided with a second season in A2 to be framed for Porto Viro: “There were many good moments last year, one of the victories I remember with the most pleasure is the one at home with Vibo, we were among the first teams to beat the leaders and we did it in front of our fans, it was a beautiful game to play.
