After Marchisio here is the second new face of the 2023/24 season. The best candidate to fill up the central battery comes from none other than the top national league.

Andrei Mattei (class of ’93, 202 centimeters) embraces the A2 series again after a season in the ranks of Top Volley Cisterna (to all intents and purposes a homecoming for the central Aprilia, originally from Marino), concluded with ninth place in regular championship and participation in the playoff preliminaries fifth place. A haul of 22 games played, 28 sets played and 14 goals (8 winning attacks, 1 ace and 5 point blocks).

“I came down from the Superlega with a personal goal – declared the Lazio centre-back -. Each of us has a challenge with ourselves to carry on and I think this phase of my career represents a good opportunity to try and win it. When my attorney told me about the possibility of coming to Grottazzolina explaining the project to me, I convinced myself that it was the best choice. I felt great respect for me from all the staff and I really like the approach that the company intends to give to the team.”

The greats’ debut in volleyball dates back to the 2011/12 Serie A2 championship. In that season, the athlete from Lazio shares the Club Italia Roma shirt with Andrea Marchisio and Manuele Marchiani, the first of three consecutive experiences in the second national category which earned him the conquest of the three trophies of his career so far: 2012/13 championship with Molfetta shirt and double championship-Coppa Italia the following year in Padua, a team with which he will also face the 2014/15 A1 series season. Thus begins a five-year interlude in the top Italian championship which will also see him protagonist in Latina together with Roberto Romiti (2015/16), Sora (seasons 2016/17 and 2017/18, the latter will lead him to share the dressing room with Rasmus Breuning Nielsen) and finally Siena (2018/19). Followed by three consecutive years in Serie A2 (two years 2019-21 in Reggio Emilia and the following season again in Siena).
