Valsa Group Modena – Knack Roeselare 0-3 (21-25, 23-25, 21-25)

Valsa Group Modena makes a perfect comeback in Belgium and wins the CEV Cup 2023 15 years after the last European triumph. Andrea Giani’s team, who also sat on the bench then (2008), won 3-0 in Belgium and also won the Golden Set which is worth the Cup, thanks to a superb Lagumdzija (MVP with 25 points) and his captain Bruno, deployed despite the problem in his right ankle. In a difficult moment of the season, with three consecutive defeats between the Play Offs and the CEV Cup, the Valsa Group Modena unleashes an incredible reaction of pride and enjoys the triumph.

Modena starts the match with Bruno, who grits his teeth despite the injury to his right ankle sustained in Piacenza on Sunday, and Lagumdzija in the main diagonal, Ngapeth-Rinaldi are the hammers, Stankovic-Sanguinetti as central players and Rossini as libero. Roeselare responds with D’Hulst playmaker, Koukartsev opposite, Verhanneman-Tammearu spikers, Coolman-Fasteland in the center and Deroey libero. The Roeselare arena is a pit, sold out in every order of place. Modena starts very strong going on 8-5 with a very inspired Lagumdzija. The Valsa Group goes on 12-8 with Bruno who finds the central players with great continuity. The Knack immediately raises his head, immediate break and 12-12. Strappa Modena goes up 19-15 with a great defense by Gollini and the first half by Stankovic. The Belgians are not there, against break and result that goes on 21-21. The end of the set is yellow-blue, Sanguinetti’s ace closes the partial 27-25. Roeselare makes good use of the pipe at the start of the second set, 3-5. La Valsa Group is relentless in service, triple ace by Lagumdzija, 12-8. We arrive at 16-13 with the Belgians who remain in the wake of the yellows. Rinaldi puts the diagonal of 21-19, it is Ngapeth who closes the run 25-22. The Knack goes 1-5 in the third set then Bruno is at the service to play the charge, 4-5. We arrive at 9-9 with Modena who continues to push hard on service. The point to point of a heart-pounding set continues, 18-17 ahead of the yellows. Modena goes on 24-21 which then closes the partial 25-23. In the golden set, Modena immediately starts well, going over 8-4. The yellows never let go, widen the lead and close 9-15.

The Valsa Group Modena therefore imposes itself at the Tomabel Hall and puts on the bulletin board a CEV Cup 2023 which enters the history of the Gialloblù club by right.
