At this point in the transfer market, two days after the expiry of the membership deadline, I can say that as a club we have made a great effort to set up a competitive team in such a short time from the news of the category change. The result was excellent: a roster made up of players of great depth.
Our job as technicians will be to make this group a team as quickly as possible.
Have you worked with any new arrivals in the past?
I worked with Mazzone in Città di Castello and with Pochini with Acqua Fonteviva Livorno. For Mazzone it was the beginning of his career: a player of great talents who, not surprisingly, played in some of the best teams in the top flight. I have met a few more recently and I am very happy to be able to work with him again. There are still the last pieces to be defined. We are currently evaluating the completion of the team which was one of the first objectives we set ourselves.
Will it have to do with different athletes who will eventually be involved in their respective national teams, how are these situations managed for the purpose of preparation?
We will wait for the calls for the World Cup and see who will be immediately available or not. This year the championship is brought forward to October 2, so the preparation will be very particular.Omar Pelillo and I (who will return to cover the ground as assistant coach while continuing in his role as an athletic trainer) have decided to use individual programs that make going to immediately regulates the players we are already following from a distance. When they arrive in Siena they will have to be “ready to play” because we have a few weeks before they are fully operational.
Those players who eventually arrive after the World Cup, towards mid-September, will have two weeks to get into the rhythm of the match with the team. Our goal will be to have, especially in that phase, a team that takes advantage of the imperfect pace of play of the great teams that have had players involved in the World Cup, to nibble on useful points. The friendlies phase will also be functional to approach the teams of the top flight that we will meet in the league.
