Another loss for Verona, this time on the home turf versus Sir Safety Conad Perugia, after the bad loss last thursday in Modena in Del Monte Italian Cup Quarterfinals. This time Nikola Grbic ‘s team faced this challenge with the right attitude, but in this early season, Sir Safety is really too much for everybody. In first set Verona suffered alot Perugia’s serves, losing clearly 25-16. In the second Verona tried to fight back, good in serve and down the net, but once again, in the crunch time, Perugia took the lead with Zaytsev and Atanasijevic (Mvp of the game), and won 25-21. Same plot also in the third, with Calzedonia and Sir Safety on the edge until the crunch time, when once again Lorenzo Bernardi’s team took the lead and never looked back, by winning set and match 25-19. It was a great performance for Perugia, still undefeated in this season, showing a great display of power onto all the teams. On the other hand some steps ahead for Verona, but they seems to be still far from the powerhouses of the tournament.
MVP: Aleksander Atanasijevic (Sir Safety Conad Perugia)
Nikola Grbic (Calzedonia Verona): “I knew they would play this way, we are trying to face every game with hustle and aggressivity. We have to improve our play, the mechanisms and our chemistry. We need patience, we don’t have to forget that we have alot of brand new players, some of them for the first time in Italy”.
Lorenzo Bernardi (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “I’m satisfied, we played a great game. We are not at the top, but we are on the right path, we have some great moments, but also some bad moments. We have still room for improvement, especially in break. We preparred the game in othet way, we did not expected that Verona would gain so easily side outs, and their strong servers put us in troubles a bunch of times. We have to improve on these aspects”.
Wixo LPR Piacenza – Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 24-26, 15-10) – Wixo LPR Piacenza: Baranowicz 4, Parodi 18, Yosifov 8, Marshall 8, Clevenot 24, Alletti 8, Cottarelli 0, Manià (L), Giuliani (L), Hershko 7. Once again a tie break win for Wixo LPR Piacenza, this time at PalaBanca versus Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia. 2 points gained by Alberto Giuliani’s team in front of the home fans, after trailing down 0-1 in the count of the sets. First set, as usual a slow start for Wixo Lpr, with Vibo always in front, with Piacenza who fought back in the end but with Lorenzo Tubertini’s team winner of the set 25-23. In second finally hammers Simone Parodi and Trevor Clevenot stepped up, putting on the ground a bunch of important balls, driving Piacenza to a 25-20 win in the set grabbing the tie. Also in the third a good offensive performance for Wixo gave the win 25-23 to the Biancorossi, then in fourth set the lack of focus of Piacenza gave to Vibo the chance to comeback in to the game, grabbing the tie break with a big effort on 26-24. In last fifth set Vibo was force to trail under the spikes of Hershko from the bench, who drove Wixo Lpr to the tie break win 15-10. Best scorers of the game Clévenot (24 points, 59% reception, 57% attack) and Parodi (18, 3 aces, 1 block, 61% in attack). On the other hand good game for Antonov (17 points).
MVP: Simone Parodi
Alberto Giuliani (Wixo LPR Piacenza): “I’m a bit disappointed for the fourth set lost on the edge in the extras, with some bad serves. 3 points would be important. Right now we are without opposites. We showed some strength and hustle, we won this game and this is the most important thing”.
Lorenzo Tubertini (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “Despite the absence of Fei, we knew it wouldn’t be an easy game. We are still not at our best, we need to improve in defence and down the net. We had a good start, we need to improve but I’m happy of the attitude of the team. We always believed also in the tough moments, let’s re start from here to improve even more”.

Diatec Trentino won this tough and exciting game, after four sets very different each other. First two sets were great for Trento, despite the absence of Uros Kovacevic for a muscular trouble, they dominated in attack thanks to a great Simone Giannelli, taking home the first two partials. In third the music radically changed, with a third set with 8 aces put on the ground by Kioene Padova, with Trento in technical KO, with Padove who won the set 25-17. In fourth Trento fought back again but Padova continued to be successful in the serve and in attack, with a great Gabriele Nelli, former Trento’s player who played an outstanding game versus his former team. In the end the most experience in crunch time of Trento gave to the visiting team the 25-23 win in fourth set, taking home three precious points. On the other hand Kioene played a great game in third and fourth, suffering in the first two sets. Best scorer of the game was Nelli with 24 points, Randazzo and Polo 11 apiece for Padova. For Trento the best scorer was captain Filippo Lanza with 20 points, troubles in reception for canadian Nicholas Hoag, but a good game in attack with 17 points for him. On the opposite side Luca Vettori 13 points.
MVP: Filippo Lanza (Diatec Trentino)
Lazar Koprivica (Kioene Padova): “Padova is a team who’s growing up, we can see this. We are coming from three difficult challenges versus two powerhouses as Perugia and Trento, but, on today we shwed we can compete also at this top level. The games we will need to win will be others, but on tonight we showed our power, and if we grabbed the tie break, it wasn’t a scandal”.
Luca Vettori (Diatec Trentino): “We were good in first two sets, then we turned off the light. In fourth it was a big battle, and we were good in closing the game. This is our path, to play every three days is a way to practice, improving the chemistry in the team”.

No chances for BioSì Indexa Sora versus Azimut Modena, who played a very intense and good game, despite the final 3-0 result. the most important news, starting the game, was the sold out at Palasport “Città di Frosinone”, brand new home of Biosì Indexa for this season. The powerhouse from Emilia Romagna played a great game, grabbing the win in first set 25-22, despite three Video Check calls reversed by Sora. In second set a good start for Biosì Indexa, with a good turn in the fundamental of serve by Dusan Petkovic who drove Sora to a 9-4 lead. Funny and exciting game, with Modena who reached the tie in the crunch time of the second, by winning 25-23 with a couple of great spikes from Earvin Ngapeth. In third Modena continues to play very well, with great set by Mossa de Rezende Bruno, Mvp of the game, who found with perfect touches and timing all his hammers, with the Gialloblù who won 25-22 also the third set and the match. Best scorer for Modena Tine Urnaut with 14 points, for Sora Caneschi with 11 points.
MVP: Bruno Mossa De Rezende (Azimut Modena)
Mario Barbiero (BioSì Indexa Sora): “It was a very beautiful game, we lost 3-0 and this is bad. We have to learn to play better in the crunch time. We can play very well until the half of the set, and in crunch time we lose ourselves. We should work on the mentality qand the approach, we are light, we should be aggressive in the important moments”.
Radostin Stoytchev (Azimut Modena): “It wasn’t an easy game at all. We knew we had to win, bnut Sora did an outstanding job to put us in trouble, risking alot in the fundamental of serve. We weren’t so good in our game, so we suffered. The most important thing is the result anyway”.
