LPR Piacenza won also Quarterfinals Game 2 at PalaBianchini versus Top Volley Latina. Now Alberto Giuliani’steam will have the chance to close the series next sunday 9th april on the home turf at PalaBanca. Once again Piacenza had a slow start, with Latina winner 25-19 in first set. Then Lpr found the right rhythm in attack, the right timing down the net, winning the second 25-20 after a good start. Also in third it was a rollercoaster score, Piacenza in the lead, then Latina’s comeback, then again a break for Piacenza, for the final win 25-22 in third. In fourth Lpr was always in the lead, a couple of blocks for Di Martino starting the set, 4-0 in favour of Piacenza, aces from Fernando Hernandez on 13-6, then Trevor Clevenot and Leonel Marshall for the final 25-17 in the game, and 2-0 in the series. Game 3 will take place next sunday 9th april at 18 at PalaBanca in Piacenza.

An important win for Exprivia Molfetta in Unipolsai Playoff Challenge Quarterfinals Game 2, a 3-1 win on Gi Group Monza which tied the series, a great game in front the sell out crowd of PalaPoli. It wasn’t easy, for Molfetta, to take home this result, playing without Superleague top scorer Giulio Sabbi, injured right before the start of the game during the warm up. But all the team stepped up, facin this emergency, dominating first set 25-17, and winning second at the extras 26-24, with a great performance down the net by Mvp middle blocker Marco Vitelli, 14 points, 75% in attack, 5 aces and 3 blocks for him in the end. In third Gi Group fought back, taking the lead on 16-8 and winning the set 25-19. In fourth the game is balanced, 8-8 starting the set, then an important break for Exprivia on 17-13, but Monza came back trailing until the tie at 20. In the end it was a mistake in the serve by Christian Fromm which gave the set and the match to Molfetta on 25-23. Now the series is tied, next Game 3 will take place in Monza next sunday 9th april.

Marco Vitelli (Exprivia Molfetta): “It was a very important win, we do need to take advantage of the home court. Now we have to trip to Monza giving everything on the court, risking everything in every fundamental, as we did on today. We were good in putting pressure on them sisnce the start of the game”.

Nikola Jovovic (Gi Group Monza): “We knew Molfetta was great on the home turf, they are very dangerous at PalaPoli in front of their fans. We had some troubles in reception, and more or less in all the fundamentals, in first two sets. We knew this would be a long long series, we will try to win using our strength on the home turf”.

At PalaGlobo “Luca Polsinelli” BioSì Indexa Sora played once again at the same level of powerhouse Calzedonia Verona, without being able to take home the win, finishing with another tie break loss in Unipolsai Playoff Challenge Quarterfinal Game 2. Sora was aggressive starting the game, winning the first set 25-21. In second set Nikola Grbic put on court Ferreira who answered the call, driving Verona to a 25-22 win. In third it was a perfect performance by Biosì Indexa, who dominated 25-15 the set, taking the lead. In fourth it was a battle, with Mvp Uros Kovacevic who put 10 points on the ground, driving Calzedonia to the tie break. In fifth and last set the game was very balanced, with Sora who wasted a match ball, with Stefano Mengozzi who put on the ground two balls for the final 17-15 win for Calzedonia Verona, now in front 2-0 in the series, ready to close it next saturday 8th april on the home turf at Agsm Forum.

Maurizio Colucci (BioSì Indexa Sora): “Also today we played an high level game, for this I’m very satisfied. We improved our play from Game 1, we fixed some mistakes we were doing, but it wasn’t enough, the result was once again a loss. In Game 3 we will need to put once again everything on the court, keeping high our level of volleyball, searching for the only thing we missed until now, the result”.

Nikola Grbic (Calzedonia Verona): “It was a team win. We started in a way, and finished in a completely different way. All the players who stepped on the court gave a fundamental effort for this win. I’m happy about the result, despite our struggles in some part of the game”.
