Piacenza wasn’t able to contain the power of Perugia in Gara 2, but Lpr fought until the end with heart and determination. Sir Safety showed once again their strength, winning on three sets versus a combative Piacenza. Aaron Russell was Mvp and best scorer of the game with 15 points, a good job down the net also for the middle blockers, 12 points apiece for Marko Podrascanin and Emanuele Birarelli. For Podrascanin a great percentage in attack, 80%. For Lpr Piacenza 13 points for Trevor Clavenot, 11 for Leonel Marshall and 10 for Fernando Hernandez. All the sets were on the edge, in first Ivan Zaytsev closed the set for Perugia, in second is still Zaytsev the go to guy for Sir, with a bunch of great serves, in third Piacenza is in the lead for long part of the set, but in the end the experience and the class of Perugia gave the win in the set in the match and in the series to Lorenzo Bernardi’s team. Sir Safety Conad Perugia to the semifinals versus Trento, Lpr Piacenza in Playoff Challenge quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of the series between Top Volley Latina and Revivre Milano.

Leonel Marshall (LPR Piacenza): “We knew it would be a difficult game, and so it was. We gave our best, we were coming from a complicated week after Cev Cup’s game versus Trento and the game in Perugia, where we did not play at our level. I’m happy for our game on tonight, it was almost impossible to win versus this opponent, but I’m happy because we gave everything, we put all our forces on the court”.
Lorenzo Bernardi (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “It was a great and important win, it wasn’t easy to come here and grab the win. We did not play at the same level of saturday, in third set we did alot of mistakes. They are a team with quality and with alot of motivations after saturday’s loss, they could be dangerous. Now we have 10 days to prepare the challenge versus Trento, we need to step up in our level of volleyball, we will need to take soon the lead of the series winning on the road”.

Sometimes the heart is not enough. In front of the enthusiastic crowd of Palazzetto dello Sport in Monza, Miguel Àngel Falasca’s Gi Group Monza left on court the dreams of semifinals, losing 0-3 Game 2 of Quarterfinals versus Diatec Trentino, a team who defeated Monza for the third time in 10 days, deserving the access to semifinals, where they will face Sir Safety Conad Perugia, in a “classic” of Unipolsai Superleague. Despite the score, it was a good game for Monza, who put everything on the court on tonight. It was a clear win for Trento in the first set, 25-18 in favour of Angelo Lorenzetti’s team, but in the second Monza fought back thanks to Hirsch and Fromm. But the quality and the experience of Trento were strong, with Stokr, Solè and Van de Voorde almost perfect in attack, with Simone Giannelli once again great in setting his players. Mvp Tine Urnaut was the real go to guy for Trento, always present in the crunch time of the match. Trento won second set 25-23 and third 25-22, clinching the semifinal’s spot versus Perugia, playing with the home court advantage.

MVP: Tine Urnaut
Christian Fromm (Gi Group Monza): “We were great in reaching playoffs, thanks to the team, the coaching staff and the club. On tonight Trento was better than us and deserved the access to semifinal. We were there, but we missed a little of clarity of mind in the key moments. Now let’s go with Play Off Challenge, we want to play in Europe, the season is not finished and we are motivated to play until the end”.
Tine Urnaut (Diatec Trentino): “We expected a tough game, and it was a tough game. Monza did not play very well in first set, but in second and third they fought back and it was tough for us. We were good in react in difficulties, having patience and closing the key plays in the crunch time of the game. How will be versus Perugia? Will be difficult they are one of the best teams of the tournament, but now we have to think first to Cev Cup quarterfinals versus Piacenza, we want to be motivated”.
Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia – Cucine Lube Civitanova 0-3 (16-25, 18-25, 18-25) – Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia: Coscione 2, Alves Soares 5, Barone 0, Michalovic 9, Barreto Silva 8, Diamantini 4, Marra (L), Costa 2, Torchia 0, Izzo 0. It was an easy one for Lube at PalaValentia. Gianlorenzo Blengini’s team won clearly 3-0 on Tonno Callipo and gained the Semifinals’ spot, waiting for the winner of Calzedonia Verona-Azimut Modena series. No way for Tonno Callipo, never into the game except early in third set. A great performance by american setter Micah Christenson (Mvp of the match), in front of brasilian national team head coach Renan Dal Zotto, arrived in Vibo to watch Tonno Callips brasilians Kadu, Thiago Alves and Junior Costa. The best scorer of the game was Osmany Juantorena with 14 points (52% in attack), well supported by Jiri Kovar, Tsvetan Sokolov and captain Dragan Stankovic. Tonno Callipo tried to do something in attack with Peter Michalovic, but any spiker of Vibo reached the double digits in attack, also thanks to an usual great performance by frenchman libero Jenna Grebennikov. In the perfect game by Lube, the only weakness has been the mistakes in the fundamental of serve, especially in first set. Now for Tonno Callipo two weeks of bye, then they will face Bunge Ravenna (again) in the Play Off Challenge quarterfinals, starting on 26th march.
Mvp: Micah Christenson
Manuel Coscione (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We weren’t able to keep their rhythm. Now we have to reset, and think to Play Off Challenge, where we want to do our best”.
Gianlorenzo Blengini (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “It’s an important win, we were good in being always focused on our goal, we approached and handled the game the right way, we knew they were a good team, but the players were great in keeping high the attention, any discount to the opponent”.
