Piacenza came away from Perugia with its qualification into the cup final four after over two hours of superb volleyball. Perugia could not hang on to a two-set lead in front of three thousand Perugia faithfuls. Serves and attack were brilliant in the first two sets but then Peurgia faded and Piacenza found the counter punch. Hernandez scored 27, while former Perugia star, Alletti, had six blocks. The hosts had more and more mistakes from the 9m as the game wore on and only Atanasijevic kept his rhythm (29 points). In the tie-break, Piacenza immediately escaped (1-5) but Perugia fought back. However, they could not seem to stop Hernandez who was named MVP as he led Piacenza to the breakthrough.
Luciano De Cecco (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We have to learn from our mistakes. From the third set on, Piacenza deserved to win. We lost our way in every area of the game, while they studied us perfectly and played a perfect game. Unfortunately we’ll watch the final four on TV and now we’ll prepare for the important events that will come next ».
Leonel Marshall (LPR Piacenza): “That was an in-or-out game. The first important one for us. They started off very aggressive, but we stayed composed. These are the games in which you have to give everything, play with your head as well as with your heart. And we proved we had heart tonight ».

MVP Van de Voorde
Trentino made it into the Italian Cup final four for the tenth time thanks to a 3-0 home win over Monza. Lorenzetti’s men remained unbeaten at home by sweeping the only team that had taken a point in the PalaTrento arena this season. The hosts built their success on some excellent blocking (11) and their attack, while Giannelli not only had an excellent distribution once again but was inspired on the serve : he had a run of 11 serves (from 12-8 to 22-9) which basically sealed the third set in no time. MVP: Simon Van de Voorde
Simon Van de Voorde (Diatec Trentino): “We are delighted to be qualified for the Final Four. We made the most of some good blocking. I scored a lot tonight but the whole team played well. It’s all much easier when the team plays like that. Let’s focus on Perugia now ».
Marco Rizzo (Gi Group Monza): “We did not manage to play as well as in our league game. We knew it was going to be difficult to win on a court where nobody’s won yet and against the most in-form team in the league. They got off to a strong start but gave us a chance to get back in the second when we were a few points ahead. We did not take advantage. I’m disappointed with the way the third set ended, we had really worked hard to prepare this game. Now it’s time to think about the next game, an important one against Latina for our position in the table as well as to give a boost to the guys ».
