Alessandro Tondo was born in Lecce on 18 August 1991. He made his pro debut at 20 years of age in the Serie A2 with Reggio Emilia, where he stayed until last season. The 25-year-old middle blocker has already been called by the Italian national team in 2015 for a camp in Rome as part of the Rio 2016 project.
“I am so happy and ready to give it my best shot – said Tondo – To be honest, I had already tried to play in the top division last year but for different reasons, mainly personal (I got my degree in March in physiotherapy, and studying in Parma I chose to stay in Reggio) I decided to give up. I feel a little bit of pressure, in the Serie A2 everybody knew me and it was easy to stay in the same league. But now I have to prove myself all over again, I know it won’t be easy but it’s very exciting just like my first year in the A2 was”.
