Verona had stopped the bleeding in the last encounter, putting an end to a five-losing streak, and they were looking at this game as a confirmation. And so it was. It’s been long coming with a battle of two hours but Giani’s men eventually took three points. Lots of adrenaline in the first set that lasted 40 minutes. A spectacular point from Djuric made it 31 all after a never-ending rally. Then a terrific dig from Djuric again and a Kovacevic show sealed it for the hosts. In the second set, Latina led all the way, only to crash out at the end. The third seemed a carbon copy of the previous one, Latina had the lead but Verona hanged on close. Bagnoli’s men remained solid that time though. Verona clinched another competitive and tight set to take the three points.
Andrea Giani (coach Calzedonia Verona): “We’ve finally won at home, this is our second consecutive victory. Latina has good players and they had improved a lot since the beginning of the season. We are finding our identity again and our rhythm and we’re very happy about it ».
Fabio Fanuli (Top Volley Latina): “We’re very disappointed with the first two sets. But we have to accept this result as it is but we must keep the positive we did. We are improving, we’re on the up, we look at this second half of season with confidence ».
