The first return games will take place this Thursday 8 December. Bottom of the table, Club Italia Roma is still without a win. They have a daunting challenge ahead against Siena, who’s chasing first place. The Tuscans are just one behind the leaders.
Lagonegro will be the one to host the leaders of BBC Castellana Grotte. There was the recent addition of setter Piazza in Bergamo as Lagonegro won its last four encounters. In Giosa’s 500th appearance in regular season, the winter champ won its last one against Potenza Picena at home in the tie-break.
Aversa will soon be celebrating Robbiati’s one thousand points in the Serie A. Aversa had lost its two opening games before winning six after that and losing at the tie-break against Siena in the last one. They will take on Tuscania, third following its straight set win over Ortona.
Last from bottom, Ortona has only won one game away but is aiming to move back up the standings as it hosts Alessano. The latter is coming off a defeat on the road against Lagonegro.
Beaten in the first meeting 3-1, Potenza Picena intends on taking revenge on Santa Croce and move above them in the table. Visentin and co went very close from the upset against the leader BBC Castellana Grotte in the last round. Santa Croce will have captain Elia back for this game and they have just signed two new players: Cuban outside hitter Angel Dennis, and setter Valerio Vermiglio.
Brescia will try to bounce back from the tie-break defeat conceded in the first meeting against Cantù (1-3). Zambonardi’s men have always taken three points at home in this regular season. Beaten in the last round by Mondovì, Cantù is eager to get on track.
Paolo Zambolin took over the head coach duty in Reggio Emilia the last game and a win came about at the expense of Grottazzolina. Reggio will entertain Montecchio Maggiore, who are coming off a disappointing outing in Spoleto (0-3). Giglioli is two points away from a thousand in the Serie A.
In its last encounter, Civita Castellana was beaten by Materdomini in the PalaGrotte arena. Spanakis’s team is fourth with 15 points, but its next opponent, Bergamo is tied on points following its 3-1 win over Brescia. In the first meeting between the two clubs, Bergamo had lost at the tie-break.
Spoleto ended the first half of regular season in style with a 3-0 win over Montecchio Maggiore. In spite of having a game in hand, they are tied in first place with Mondovì. The latter managed to win 3-1 in the PalaManera arena in spite of having outside hitter Paoletti injured (Elbow, 20 days out).
Materdomini Castellana Grotte is bottom of the group but there were recent improvements with a four-set win over a tough opposition like Civita Castellana. This Thursday they will take on Grottazzolina, who had won the first meeting 3-0. But now, they are facing some difficult times with outside hitter Moretti injured.
