Calzedonia Verona – Sir Safety Conad Perugia 0-3 (13-25, 23-25, 14-25)

Calzedonia Verona: Baranowicz 0, Kovacevic 7, Anzani 5, Djuric 10, Lecat 0, Zingel 4, Frigo (L), Ferreira 8, Giovi (L), Paolucci 0, Mengozzi 0. DNP. Holt, Stern. Coach.Giani.

For Verona that was « the » game, the one that could get the team on track, but instead they could not stop the bleeding and conceded a fifth straight defeat. Perugia played to perfection and left Giani’s team no chance. Only the second set was tight while the first and third were one-way traffic. Perugia registered 10 blocks and had Zaytsev as MVP of the game.

Angiolino Frigoni (Sport director Calzedonia Verona): “We will need time and hard work to overcome this situation. I expected a reaction of pride from the team, I partially saw it. In terms of quality of play though, I did not see any improvement ».

Lorenzo Bernardi (coach Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We passed this test. I had told the boys we were not cured yet after the Latina game and indeed we struggled in the second set. But we did a good job of holding them off and clinch it in the end. We got some energy back from that second set win and managed to seal it in three sets ».

Diatec Trentino – Gi Group Monza 3-2 (25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 15-11)

Diatec Trentino: Giannelli 2, Lanza 19, Solé 14, Nelli 11, Urnaut 13, Mazzone D. 11, Chiappa (L), Colaci (L), Stokr 8, Van De Voorde 0, Antonov 0, Mazzone T. 0. DNP. Blasi, Burgsthaler. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Gi Group Monza: Jovovic 2, Botto 13, Beretta 3, Hirsch 24, Fromm 19, Verhees 2, Brunetti (L), Rizzo (L), Forni 4, Daldello 0, Dzavoronok 0, Galliani 1. DNP. Terpin. Coach. Cattaneo.

After two consecutive losses, Trento got back on track as it remains unbeaten at home this season. Thanks to this victory over Monza, Trento secured its place among the top four and the Italian cup quarter-finals. The hosts had won the first two sets thanks to excellent stats in attack by varying brilliantly its game with efffectiveness. But Monza fought back to force a tie-break. In the fifth, Stokr, who had come on for Nelli, and Lanza did the job in attack, while Solé made its presence felt at the net. He was named MVP with 4 blocks.

Sebastian Solé (Diatec Trentino): “It’s been extremely tough but in the end we managed to get this hard-fought but deserved victory. We knew Monza was going to give us a hard time. We did a great job of bouncing back when we were forced to play a fifth set. Two points might seem too little but in reality it’s fair ».

Marcello Forni (Gi Group Monza): “It’s always disappointing to lose at the tie-break, especially when you come back from 2-0 down like we did tonight. It’s always been tough to win in this arena. We were very close tonight, which is the result of hard work and focus during the week. In the third and fourth set, they faded while we put our feet on the pedal, and we held off their attempts of coming back. But in the fifth they were back at their best, we went as close as one point but they never let us tie it. We have to realise this is a very important point. This will give us confidence for our coming home game against Piacenza and this shows that we have character ».

Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia – Bunge Ravenna 3-1 (25-22, 28-26, 20-25, 28-26)

Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia: Coscione 0, Geiler 3, Diamantini 3, Rejlek 7, Barreto Silva 15, Barone 5, Torchia (L), Michalovic 19, Marra (L), Alves Soares 8, Costa 4. DNP. Izzo, Corrado, Maccarone. Coach. Kantor.

Bunge Ravenna: Spirito 6, Grozdanov 13, Ricci 14, Torres 16, Van Garderen 12, Bossi 3, Raffaelli 4, Goi (L), Lyneel 0, Marchini (L), Leoni 0, Kaminski 1. DNP. Calarco. Coach. Soli.

Vibo Valentia took all three points at the expense of Ravenna and moved to 8th in the table above Padova. The hosts had the better of a Ravenna team that gave it a great fight and was very close to bring the game to the fifth in spite of being 2-0 down. What turned things around were the substitutions made by the Argentinian coach with Michalovic and Alves in for Rejlek and Geiler. The Slovakian outside hitter was named MVP with 19 points (54% in attack, 2 aces, 2 blocks). As for Soli’s men, a superb performance at the net (18 blocks) and a terrific game from Fabio Ricci were not enough.

Peter Michalovic (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “This is a crucial win, it was important to get back on track after the loss against Sora. I have to be ready every time they need me to help the team. Now we have to focus immediately on Latina and train hard to be ready for a great game ».

Fabio Ricci (Bunge Ravenna): “We played some good volleyball but only in flashes and we made too many mistakes on the serve as well as in reception. Still, we managed to stay in the game but they did a better job of going over the hump at the end of sets. We’re a bit disappointed but we have to forget it and focus on the next one against Sora ».

Revivre Milano – Top Volley Latina 2-3 (25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 19-25, 9-15)

Revivre Milano: Sbertoli 2, Marretta 9, Tondo 5, Starovic 28, Skrimov 17, Galassi 12, Rudi (L), Cortina (L), Nielsen 9, Dennis 0, Boninfante 0. DNP. Hoag, De Togni, Galaverna. Coach. Monti.

Top Volley Latina: Sottile 1, Maruotti 18, Rossi 11, Strugar 0, Klinkenberg 11, Gitto 9, Fanuli (L), Penchev 16, Pistolesi 0, Quintana Guerra 0. DNP. Coach. Bagnoli.

The one who made less mistakes won it in the PalaYamamay arena. Thanks to the tie-break win, Latina takes two points and moves above Milan in the table (they have more wins). Milan is now bottom of the league as it made no less than 28 mistakes on the serve, 10 in attack and 3 in reception. Latina missed 13 serves, made seven errors in attack and 3 in reception. While three players were missing, Fei for Latina, De Togni and Hoag for Milan, Bagnoli found inspiration from Rozalin Penchev, setter Sottile and there were some clutch plays from Maruotti. Still, it was Milan’s Starovic who was named MVP with his 28 points (54% in attack).

Riccardo Sbertoli (Revivre Milano): “Our downfall came from our serve mistakes. I really cannot explain it because it’s the first time we miss 28 serves in a game. We couldn’t seem to get it in, when we were hitting it soft, it went wrong, when we were hitting it hard, it went wrong too. This was the difference on the night ».

Gabriele Maruotti (Top Volley Latina): “We had promised ourselves before the game to stay calm, and in spite of being a bit nervous at the end of the third set, we managed to stay composed and react to the difficult situations. We had a new line-up in attack and today Penchev did a great job of substituting Fei, I have to congratulate him. We did well on the serve, we hanged on in reception, we had a solid game and given our situation this was an important win ».

LPR Piacenza – Azimut Modena 1-3 (19-25, 29-27, 31-33, 22-25)

LPR Piacenza: Hierrezuelo 5, Clevenot 14, Tencati 2, Hernandez Ramos 20, Marshall 11, Alletti 7, Manià (L), Yosifov 1, Parodi 0, Papi (L), Tzioumakas 0, Cottarelli 0. DNP. Zlatanov. Coach. Giuliani.

Azimut Modena: Orduna 0, Ngapeth E. 21, Holt 5, Vettori 25, Petric 13, Le Roux 11, Rossini (L), Onwuelo 0, Cook 0, Piano 0, Ngapeth S. 0. DNP. Massari, Salsi. Coach. Piazza.

Modena won the big game of round 12 and stopped Piacenza’s run of five consecutive home wins. The hosts played with determination and heart during all four sets but the serve was the difference on the day : Piazza’s men registered 12 aces, while Piacenza had none. Giuliani’s men seemed to always find a way back when in trouble thanks to their fighting spirit and some excellent blocking (10, Hierrezuelo got 4) but MVP Vettori (25 points, 4 aces, 2 blocks) and his teammates eventually managed to take the three points.

Aimone Alletti (LPR Piacenza): “We are a bit disappointed. Modena served brilliantly but in various occasions we did a good job of coming back in the sets and overall we had a good game. We could really have got something out of this game, but now let’s focus on the next one, we’re on the right track ».

Matteo Piano (Azimut Modena): “We never gave up. Piacenza did a great job of getting back in it in the third set but we did as well to hang on and contain their spikers on the counters. We knew it was going to be a very difficult road game. Piacenza plays very well at home and we could not underestimate this factor ».

Cucine Lube Civitanova – Exprivia Molfetta 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17)

Cucine Lube Civitanova: Christenson 1, Juantorena 21, Stankovic 7, Sokolov 20, Cebulj 9, Candellaro 10, Pesaresi (L), Grebennikov 0, Kaliberda 5. DNP. Corvetta, Casadei, Cester, Kovar. Coach. Blengini.

Exprivia Molfetta: Pontes Veloso 2, De Barros Ferreira 12, Vitelli 6, Sabbi 22, Olteanu 10, Polo 2, Porcelli (L), De Pandis (L), Del Vecchio 0, Partenio 0, Jimenez 0. DNP. Cormio, Hendriks. Coach. Gulinelli.

There were big applause from the home crowd for the former Civitanova players who came with Molfetta, but there was no mercy on court. Sabbi, who was on fire with 22 points, Partenio and baby Vitelli, were all in Civitanova in the past. Stankovic and co left a set on the way but made it 11 wins in 12 played as it exented its lead in the table to two points on Trento before next Sunday’s big match in Modena. Tonight, the first two sets were decided by some excellent serves from the hosts. MVP Tsvetan Sokolov (Cucine Lube Civitanova)

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Coach Cucine Lube Civitanova): “What mattered was the result and we got the win, even if we struggled in the second set and had some difficult spells in the third, we got a little nervous with a couple of mistakes. But overall this remains a solid performance that got us a crucial win ».

Flavio Gulinelli (Coach Exprivia Molfetta): “It’s always difficult to play against Civitanova, it’s tough to keep up. We did not manage to do it in the first set, we did better in the second and at times in the third in which the difference between the two teams was clear only in the end. We had our chances but I think we should have dared more to make the most of them. I liked certain plays we had, but we still have a lot of work to do ».
