Bolivar-Diatec Trentino 2-3 (22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 31-29, 15-17)
BOLIVAR: Chirivino, Almeida 15, Crer 11, Edgar 25, Aleksiev 20, Gauna 6, Gonzalez (L); Jacobsen 1, Patti, Ocampo. DNP. Codesal, Franetovich, Giraudo, Koukatsev. Coach. Javier Weber.

1.098 days affter its last time (2013), Trentino is back among the top three of the World Club Championships ; The runners-up of of the last European Cup won the game for third place at the expense of the Argentine of Bolivar. This is therefore another prestigious result for the Italians in their seventh participation in the competition. Trento had won it four times in a row from 2009 to 2012 in Doha, Qatar, while the third place was in Betim again, in Brazil.
Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Diatec Trentino): “It’s been an intense but positive week for our team. We will analyse the many games we played to get better but we definitely gained some valuable experience which we could not have got otherwise. We still have some limitations and we will analyse them in order to play more loose. We have to do a better job when it’s tight, because in such events it happens a lot. We have not always managed to handle those situations, but we can work on that and I can help the team. In the meantime, we’re happy with this result, this is an important starting point ».

TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA – SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA 2-3 (25-21, 13-25, 26-24, 19-25, 9-15) – TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA: Costa 2, Coscione 4, Marra (L), Geiler 11, Michalovic 20, Barreto Silva 14, Barone 7, Alves Soares 1, Diamantini 5. DNP Buzzelli, Torchia, Maccarone, Corrado, Rejlek. Coach. Kantor.
SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Tosi (L), Russell 16, Zaytsev 25, Della Lunga 2, Mitic 4, Berger 15, De Cecco 1, Bari (L), Birarelli 11, Podrascanin 17. DNP Buti, Chernokozhev, Franceschini, Atanasijevic. Coach. Kovac.
Great game in the PalaValentia arena in front of 2500 fans. Kovac’s men came back from behind to eventually clinch it at the tie-break. Perugia’s strong serve was key, they collected 13 aces (5 from Berger), while Zaytsev led all scorers with 25 points and 55% in attack. Vibo’s superb performance made of fast-paced passes was not enough to win the day. Coscione was outstanding in the distribution as well as in dig. He was named MVP in spite of the loss.
Manuel Coscione (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “First of all it was nice to see the stands so full. It’s been a thrilling and hard-fought game, we gave it all. But I am still disappointed that we gave up a little too soon in the tie-break, we lost our focus. But we have been improving, we just have to get better mentally. We have to get on court and do anything possible not to let the ball fall on our floor. We should always fight for every rally ».
Marko Podrascanin (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We have to be satisfied because this is another victory. We knew it was not going to be easy here, they proved they were not a team worth the last positions of the table. We have three important games coming up and we’re motivated after five wins. I am satisfied with my performance, but the most important is the group, think positive and try to win every game ».
BUNGE RAVENNA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 1-3 (20-25, 17-25, 25-17, 19-25)
BUNGE RAVENNA: Ricci 5, Kaminski, Raffaelli 1, Van Garderen 14, Lyneel 10, Grozdanov, Goi (L), Torres 11, Bossi 9, Spirito 4, Marchini (L). DNP Calarco, Leoni. Coach. Soli.
CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 12, Paolucci, Lecat 7, Ferreira 15, Giovi (L), Baranowicz 5, Mengozzi 10, Djuric 18, Anzani. DNP Kovacevic, Holt, Frigo, Stern. Coach. Giani.
Verona blocked from all angles and was sharp on the serve as it had the better of Ravenna in four sets on the road. This was a welcomed three-point win after the last two obtained at the tie-break. The visitors were led by MVP Baranowicz and Djuric.
Fabio Soli (coach Bunge Ravenna): “We lost against a top Verona team, we struggled to deal with their serve. We did not manage to play as well as in previous matches. Only in the third did we play good enough to make it hard for such a strong opponent. Unfortunately, we did not show as much courage as in other games. We served too soft, and we lacked consistency. In the third set, we played more loose and more agressive, and it paid off. There is some positive to take out of this game and we’ll build on that ».
Andrea Giani (coach Calzedonia Verona): “We’re only at the beginning of the season and the group is new. Our goal is to get better game after game, and we managed that today against a very dangerous Ravenna team. We did well to take charge in the first two sets and after fading in the third, we got back on track in the fourth. I am happy with the way we played, espcially in the blocking area and serve, and also for Stefano Mengozzi, who was back in front of his old supporters ».
REVIVRE MILANO – CUCINE LUBE CIVITANOVA 0-3 (18-25, 19-25, 21-25)
REVIVRE MILANO: Cortina (L), Hoag 8, Tondo 2, Nielsen 3, Galassi 4, Dennis 11, Boninfante 3, Marretta 1. DNP Galaverna, Sbertoli, Rudi, De Togni, Starovic. Coach. Monti.
CUCINE LUBE CIVITANOVA: Sokolov 11, Candellaro 9, Pesaresi (L), Juantorena 13, Stankovic 9, Christenson, Grebennikov, Corvetta 1, Cebulj 8. DNP Kaliberda, Casadei, Kovar, Cester. Coach. Blengini.
Bad luck had the best of Milan too, and Civitanova took advantage to come back from the PalaYamamay arena with a 3-0 win. With the hosts missing four players, Civitanova’s task became that much easier as they remain perfect at the top of the table. MVP: Micah Christenson (Cucine Lube Civitanova)
Danilo Cortina (Revivre Milano): “There was a very difficult situation to deal with today. Not only was Skrimov and Sbertoli already out but we then had to make do without Starovic and De Togni. We just couldn’t do anything about that except for rolling up our sleeves and trying our best on court. We should not have any regrets, for most of the sets we played face to face with Civitanova, then it’s clear than when the points matter more, a team like that finds an edge. I repeat, no regrets, my teammates have all done well and worked hard tonight ».
Davide Candellaro (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “Congratulations to everyone for this victory. But lately we’ve been having moments in which we lose our focus, and that makes us lose points. Then, we start playing with fighting spirit and get back on track. We’re still unbeaten, with maximum points. But now comes the toughest moments, we’ll have to prove we’re a great team byt staying top of the table ».
BIOSì INDEXA SORA – GI GROUP MONZA 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 27-25)
BIOSì INDEXA SORA: Gotsev 7, Tiozzo, Santucci (L), Kalinin 9, Rosso 15, Mattei, Seganov 2, Sperandio 1, Miskevich 17. DNP Marrazzo, Lucarelli, Mauti, De Marchi. Coach. Bagnoli.
GI GROUP MONZA: Fromm 11, Dzavoronok 13, Daldello 1, Galliani, Rizzo (L), Terpin, Botto 10, Verhees 3, Beretta 10, Brunetti. DNP Forni, Peslac. Coach. Falasca.
Sora won its first victory in the SuperLega of its history with a convincing 3-0 over Monza. Bagnoli’s men kept improving all the time and they played with heart. Rosso and co proved more effective in the clutch time of the encounter. While the headline of the past few days was Nikola Jovovic’s suspension for three rounds, yesterday there was another problem for Monza with former Sora star Simon Hirsch not making the trip because of muscle pain. That’s how Monza played this match with a brand new pair of setter and outside hitter never tried before. MVP : Miskevich
Bruno Bagnoli (coach BioSì Indexa Sora): “My boys had a great one. Congrats to them because we managed to win a very difficult game against a team that had made it hard against top guns in recent games. This was not an easy game in, we managed to be extremely effective in attack with superb performances from Rosso and Miskevitch, MVP of the game. We collected ten blocks, we read the game very well and we conceded only 2, which proves that our setter distributed extremely well. The team is clearly improving, and Kalinin too is getting better, we can only be happy with that ».
Miguel Angel Falasca (coach Gi Group Monza): “They did a better job than us, and they showed all their determination in a key moment of the encounter. As for us, we have to work to find ourselves better on court given the tricky situation we’re in right now ».
KIOENE PADOVA – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-21)
KIOENE PADOVA: Shaw 7, Giannotti 12, Balaso (L), Maar 10, Koncilja 4, Volpato 6, Fedrizzi 14. DNP Bassanello, Zoppellari, Canella, Milan, Link, Sestan. Coach. Baldovin.
EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Polo 2, Vitelli, Jimenez 6, Partenio, Del Vecchio, De Barros Ferreira 11, Pontes Veloso, Olteanu 1, Sabbi 8, De Pandis (L), Di Martino 3. DNP Porcelli, Hendriks. Coach. Di Pinto.
In just over an hour of play, Padova got rid of Molfetta, who only gave some trouble to the hosts in the third set. Padova had it all easy, starting with the serve (10 aces), while the visitors struggled both on the serve and in attack. MVP: Michele Fedrizzi
Valerio Baldovin (coach Kioene Padova): “Excellent performance anyway you look at it. We served very well and made it hard for them, we prevented them from reading our game. I am extremely satisfied with the spirit with which the team played and the concentration they maintained all game long ».
Vincenzo Di Pinto (coach Exprivia Molfetta): “We have no excuse. It’s really been one-way traffic. Padova really got us in trouble with their serve and we never really managed to get in the game. This is a step back for us. Unfortunately, we are behind in our planning, we are training while playing. In the last games we had proved we were improving, but tonight we just did not play ».
TOP VOLLEY LATINA – AZIMUT MODENA 0-3 (20-25, 19-25, 21-25)
TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Klinkenberg 7, Fei 12, Gitto 3, Sottile, Pistolesi, Strugar, Rossi 4, Maruotti 9, Penchev 4, Fanuli (L). DNP Caccioppola, Quintana Guerra. Coach. Nacci.
AZIMUT MODENA: Petric 11, Orduna 1, Massari, Rossini (L), Ngapeth E 20, Le Roux 1, Piano 7, Holt 12, Onwuelo, Vettori 4. DNP Ngapeth S, Salsi. Coach. Piazza.
In round 5, Modena came back from Latina with a straight set victory on a superb performance on the serve. Latina is still looking for its first win, while Modena stays unbeaten. MVP Earvin Ngapeth
Gabriele Maruotti (Top Volley Latina): “They have a great team that made it hard for us from the start with their serve. In the third set, we had got back in it but then you know how it went. We have to take the positive and keep working hard in the gym ».
Salvatore Rossini (Azimut Modena): “We studied the game very well, we really wanted to do well because we lost there two years ago. It’s always difficult to play in Latina, especially for me, you always have to give hundred percent. In these games you have to make the most of every opportunity to win the match. In my opinion, Latina has margin for improvement, we might have been lucky to play them now that they don’t have everybody available ».
