In the third round, Friday night’s game went to Trento. The game was packed with twists and turns but in the end MVP Lanza and co took two points in Padova. Averill had a terrific game but that was not enough to make the upset. Padova had a 2-1 lead and was 20-11 ahead in the fourth, but Urnaut and Lanza’s power made the difference. So much so that Trento turned things around and won it 25-21. Padova still managed to get the better start in the fifth with Fedrizzi and Maar (8-3) but once again Lanza showed the way to come-back and clinch it.
Taylor Averill (Kioene Padova): “We had a great game but volleyball is like that. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It’s been a tough gale but we know Trento is a top team that never gives up. We’ll just focus on Modena now ».
Tine Urnaut (Diatec Trentino): “It’s been very difficult. Padova proved it was a good team, they made it very hard for us with their serve. We did a good job of fighting to stay in the game, we kept believing. We knew it was going to be tough, these are two important points for us ».
