Four games to go in this regular season of the Serie A2 and the fight for first place is on between Vibo Valentia and Sora. The battle to get in the playoffs remains extremely interesting too.
Brescia saw its four-game winning streak stopped by Sora last weekend. They will try to bounce back at home against Cantù, sixth in the table following their superb performance at the net in the lunch match on Sunday. Gabriele Robbiati was outstanding and spiker Alessandro Preti amazing in spite of not being hundred percent.
Another crucial game for Ortona. Led by Alessio Fiore, Lanci’s men came back from Mondovì with a point. They will now try to take all three points against the chameleonic Club Italia, capable to stepping up two gears from one set to another and even take points in tough places like Montefiascone. In the last round, Club Italia was beaten by Tuscania at the tie-break.
Currently fourth in the table, Civita Castellana stands only one point behind Tuscania as they face Castellana Grotte, who took a point in the Apulia derby against Alessano thanks to the quality games of Lorenzo Bonetti and Simmaco Tartaglione. Fanizza’s men still have slight hopes of making it in the playoffs.
The league leaders of Vibo Valentia are already certain to fight for promotion. However, they lost their last three road games against Brescia, Club Italia and Reggio Emilia. Sora is now back just one point behind, which means Vibo needs to beat Mondovì. The latter have lost their last game against Ortona but still hope to catch up with Potenza Picena, who stands just two points in front.
Potenza Picena’s goal is to put an end to its negative run. Galvanised by the sports man of the year award given to Federico Moretti but preoccupied by the lack of points and Andrea Ippolito’s injury, the Potenza fans wants a change of fortune at the PalaPrincipi arena when they take on Alessano. Currently bottom of the team, they never had any luck away from home but they have the momentum following their 3-2 derby win over Castellana Grotte. Former Potenza star Matteo Bolla and Bulgarian outside hitter Jani Jeliazkov were the main architects of the victory.
Sora needs a breakthrough against Reggio Emilia to try to take first place. The runner-up of the last Italian Cup obtained a great 3-0 victory over Brescia but Reggio is a tough client. After a shy start to the season, they got on a run that led them to fifth place. They even had the better of the leaders last week.
Siena cannot wait to forget the poor home loss against Civita Castellana. Currently seventh, the Tuscans will have another home game to try to extend their lead on Potenza and Mondovì. Their opponent will be Tuscania, who took two points out of its last game against Club Italia, necessary to maintain its third place, just one point in front of Civita Castellana.
