SuperLega UnipolSai round 22 results:

Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova-Diatec Trentino 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-17); Revivre Milano-CMC Romagna 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-10); DHL Modena-Tonazzo Padova 1-3 (25-17, 21-25, 19-25, 11-25); Calzedonia Verona-Gi Group Monza 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22); Sir Safety Conad Perugia-Ninfa Latina 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22); Exprivia Molfetta-LPR Piacenza 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-22)

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA – LPR PIACENZA 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-22)

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Candellaro 11, Spadavecchia, De Barros Ferreira 11, Barone 3, De Pandis (L), Hierrezuelo 6, Fedrizzi 6, Hernandez Ramos 16. DNP Kaczynski, Mariella, Porcelli. Coach. Di Pinto.

LPR PIACENZA: Kohut 4, Ter Horst 3, Perrin 3, Papi (L), Sedlacek, Patriarca 4, Lampariello (L), Zlatanov 11, Luburic 8, Tencati 4, Tavares Rodrigues 3, Cottarelli. DNP Coscione. Coach. Giuliani.

In spite of having already secured its playoffs spot, Molfetta played hard till the end in what has been a splendid season leading to a historical sixth place. An hour and fifteen minutes were enough to dispose of Piacenza. The 13 blocks and 63% in attack were key. Hernandez and MVP Hierrezuelo stood out.

Vincenzo di Pinto (coach Exprivia Molfetta): “I think we played a good game, we stayed positive and focused. We played better than them and limited our mistakes to the minimum. The boys did a great job. Credit to the club and team for finishing at this sixth place. Like I said from day one, I tried not to ruin anything because it’s not easy to come in for the last four games. I think we still have to improve our capacity to concentrate and to be constantly aggressive to make it harder for our opponents”.

Stefano Patriarca (LPR Piacenza): “The result of this game is definitely not positive. Molfetta played well today, especially on the serve and in the blocking department, which consequently limited our attack. Congratulations to them for their performance, and I personally want to wish them all the best for the playoffs. I hope we will now turn things around with the Challenge Cup playoffs”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA – DIATEC TRENTINO 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-17) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA: Fei 13, Parodi 2, Juantorena 12, Stankovic 6, Priddy 1, Cester, Grebennikov (L), Corvetta 1, Cebulj 12, Podrascanin 5. DNP Vitelli, Kovar, Christenson, Miljkovic. Coach. Blengini.

DIATEC TRENTINO: Nelli 7, Antonov 9, Mazzone 3, Bratoev, De Angelis (L), Giannelli 2, Solé 8, Van De Voorde 2, Urnaut 4. DNP Lanza, Djuric, Colaci, Mazzone. Coach. Stoytchev.

The Eurosuole Forum had been sold out for the past three days. The prestige of this game made up for the lack of stake. With the first spot already secured, Blengini’s men obtained a 3-0 victory, which means they remained unbeaten all the way through the second half of season, and registered a new record of 11 consecutive wins. They lost only twice in 22 games and both at the tie-break. MVP Klemen Cebulj (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova)

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche): “I am undoubtedly satisfied with this victory, but it’s not today that we realised the team was in great shape, we knew that already. We had an excellent season. The fact we only lost twice, and at the tie-break, shows how consistent we’ve been, even with regular change in the starting six. Now we have to start over though”.

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Diatec Trentino): “We’ll not make excuses. We just played poorly. We really should have done better in reception, and overall too. But instead we made a lot of mistakes on the break and that ruined our chances. Against a team like Civitanova, if you don’t do well on the counter, it’s really tough to win”.

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA – NINFA LATINA 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22)

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 3, De Cecco 5, Kaliberda 11, Giovi (L), Russell 9, Dimitrov, Tzioumakas, Elia 3, Franceschini, Atanasijevic 20, Birarelli 5. DNP Fromm, Holt. Coach. Kovac.

NINFA LATINA: Krumins 1, Sottile 3, Sket 9, Romiti (L), Tailli, Hirsch 14, Yosifov 5, Rossi 4, Maruotti 9. DNP Mattei, Pavlov, Ferenciac. Coach. Placì.

Perugia took all three points at the expense of Latina. The Block Devils had not taken maximum points since February 10 against Padova. Three thousand fans came to show their support and the court invasion in the end is testimony of the appreciation for the season played. Perugia was excellent on the serve (12 aces), effective in attack (52%) and determined. Setter De Cecco was named MVP (4 aces too for him) while Atanasijevic finished top scorer with 20 points.

Simone Buti (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We really needed this win after the CEV Cup disappointment. Now we have one and only goal. Verona is the only thing on our minds now. This 3-0 will worked as motivation to start the playoffs in the best way possible”.

Gabriele Maruotti (Ninfa Latina): “That did not go well. Definitely an excellent game for our opponents, especially on the serve with which they really made it difficult for us. De Cecco has been very accurate in this fundamental, and then the rest of the team responded to his positive spirit. Still, we’re in the playoffs and we’ll give our absolute best”.

CALZEDONIA VERONA – GI GROUP MONZA 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22) – CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 10, Kovacevic 18, Pesaresi (L), Gitto, Lecat, Spirito, Frigo (L), Baranowicz 4, Starovic 16, Sander 17, Anzani 6. DNP Bellei, Bucko. Coach. Giani. GI

GROUP MONZA: Raic 21, Sala, Galliani 8, Mercorio, Jovovic 1, Rizzo (L), Botto 13, Verhees 8, Beretta 13, Rousseaux 3. DNP Daldello, Brunetti, Gao. Coach. Cattaneo.

Thanks to this 3-1 win over Monza, Verona locked up fourth place at the end of the regular season and will enjoy the court advantage in the league playoffs quarter-finals. Kovacevic gathered another MVP award, while Zingel (10), Starovic (16) and Sander (17) all finished in double figures. Verona built its victory on a more accurate attack than their opponent and some key blocks in the clutch time.

Michele Baranowicz (Calzedonia Verona): “The fourth place is extremely important for many reasons. This was one of the club’s goals and we made it. This is really great. Today, we played very well in the first two sets, while we slowed down a bit in the third. In the fourth, we let them back in it, which proves we still have a lot of work to do”.

Nikola Jovovic (Gi Group Monza): “We always play right till the end. Since the beginning of the season, we have never given up, this is our main characteristics. We did not managed to make it in the playoffs. We’re disappointed. Verona is a fantastic team and they played well. We really wanted to get the result but that wasn’t to be”.

REVIVRE MILANO – CMC ROMAGNA 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-10)

A marathon took place in the PalaBorsani arena where Milan collected its fifth win of the season at the expense of Romagna in the tie-break. Milan finished last from bottom but showed constant progress under the guidance of young setter Riccardo Sbertoli. The young local talent helped the team gain confidence and belief in its ability. Todor Skrimov took care of business in attack with 28 points (71%, 5 aces) and was named MVP of the game. Alletti (15) and De Togni (10) could also boast some high percentages and three blocks apiece.

Todor Skrimov (Revivre Milano): “It was important to win this game to seal the regular season on a high. We’re getting better, we’re playing well and we’re enjoying our volleyball. This is something that was missing at the start of the season. Now we can look at the Challenge Cup playoffs with more optimism”.

Stefano Mengozzi (CMC Romagna): “Congratulations to Milan, who played an excellent game and managed to turn what seemed to be a doomed situation. They found consistency on the serve in the fourth and fifth set. We’ll now focus on the Challenge Cup playoffs. We’re extremely motivated to play well and win”.

Modena’s starting line-up was composed of Bruno-Vettori, Ngapeth-Petric, Lucas-Bossi with libero Rossini. The hosts started strong and never let any chance to Padova. Modena changed it all from the second set (Onwelo scored an ace on his first touch) and Padova clinched it 25-21. The third set was tight but Padova eventually found a break to escape (25-19). The momentum then took the visitors to a four-set victory. MVP Stefano Giannotti (Tonazzo padova)

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach DHL Modena): “We won a game that looked anything but easy. I am extremely satisfied with the performance of my players because our youngsters proved they were on the right track. Now we’ll focus on the playoffs, Thursday is just around the corner”.
