GI GROUP MONZA – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA 0-3 (21-25, 22-25, 16-25) – GI GROUP MONZA: Raic 16, Sala 1, Galliani 3, Jovovic 1, Rizzo (L), Botto 8, Verhees 7, Beretta 2, Rousseaux. DNP Daldello, Mercorio, Brunetti, Gao. Coach. Vacondio.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA: Juantorena 13, Stankovic 8, Priddy, Christenson 3, Cester 6, Grebennikov (L), Miljkovic 14, Cebulj 11. DNP Fei, Parodi, Vitelli, Corvetta, Podrascanin. Coach. Blengini.

In front of a record crowd in Monza (3531), the hosts could not stop Civitanova, who secured first place with a game in hand in the regular season and therefore their place in the Champions League 2016-17. As for Monza, this was one of its last chances to get into the top eight. Now, it has to wait for Tuesday’s game between Padova and Milan. Only if Milan wins will they keep their chance of a playoffs qualification alive. But they’d have to beat Verona away in the last round.  MVP Micah Christenson (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova)

Nikola Jovovic (Gi Group Team Monza): “We knew it was going to be difficult tonight, even almost impossible to take three points against such a quality team. We managed to stay close in the first and second set thanks to our determination. But then we lost our way, not so much because we played badly but because they stepped up a gear in the crucial moments of the sets. Hopefully, we’ll finish with a good result in Verona in the hunt for a playoffs spot”.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova): “We end this regular season in first place: we’re thrilled to have reached this goal, we did it with our own strength without depending on the other results. The boys had another excellent game tonight, they played with intensity, they made clear they wanted the three points from the start. Besides the fact we obtained our pass for the next Champions League, I am satisfied to finish top of such a tight and quality SuperLega”.

CMC ROMAGNA – DHL MODENA 1-3 (24-26, 16-25, 25-22, 20-25)

CMC ROMAGNA: Mengozzi 2, Ricci 5, Cavanna 1, Della Lunga 8, Van Garderen 17, Polo 4, Koumentakis, Goi (L), Torres 18, Boswinkel, Bari (L), Perini De Aviz. DNP Zappoli. Coach. Kantor.

DHL MODENA: Mossa De Rezende 6, Donadio 1, Rossini (L), Sartoretti 4, Ngapeth 23, Nikic 1, Bossi 8, Saatkamp 11, Vettori 17, Sighinolfi. DNP Soli, Casadei. Coach. Lorenzetti.

At the end of a long battle in a great atmosphere in front of nearly 3000 fans, it is Modena who eventually prevailed. Without Petric and Piano, and with Nikic out halfway through the game, Modena relied on its two stars Bruno and Ngapeth. The French proved crucial in the fourth set with six consecutive points during his run of serves, some with aces, some with pipes. As for the Brazilian setter, he was deservedly named MVP as he distributed very well, even to the young Sartoretti.

Andrea Bari (CMC Romagna): “Our biggest disappointment is the first set, we went close. We played better in the third set. We were doing as well in the fourth but that was until Ngapeth ruined it with his run of serves. We lacked a little something to take at least a point”.

Bruno Mossa De Rezende (DHL Modena): “We knew it was going to be hard here. Romagna made it hard for all the top teams in the return games and they beat Trento. And they played well tonight, with a third set at the highest level. At the end of the day, what mattered for us was the win and we did it in spite of the problem regarding Nikic”.

DIATEC TRENTINO – CALZEDONIA VERONA 1-3 (26-28, 23-25, 25-12, 22-25)

DIATEC TRENTINO: Nelli 20, Antonov 8, Mazzone, Bratoev, De Angelis, Giannelli 3, Solé 10, Colaci (L), Van De Voorde 10, Urnaut 14, Mazzone 2. DNP Lanza, Djuric. Coach. Stoytchev.

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 8, Kovacevic 18, Pesaresi (L), Gitto 3, Lecat, Spirito, Baranowicz 2, Starovic 15, Bellei, Sander 12, Anzani 5. DNP Frigo, Bucko. Coach. Giani.

The 20th derby of the Adige region went to Verona. Second home loss for Trento in this regular season after Romagna. These are three crucial points for Verona in its fight to clinch fourth place. They proved they could beat anyone when they have everybody fit. And indeed, Starovic and Zingel, who had faced some physical problems of late, have been key players. And Kovacevic stood out with 20 points and some big ones in the clutch time. Verona has become a very dangerous team on the road: they won 8 of 10 away from home. MVP Uros Kovacevic (Calzedonia Verona).

Gabriele Nelli (Diatec Trentino): “It’s been a game full of ups and downs. Congratulations to Verona for winning it and putting us constantly in trouble. But unfortunately, we have to say mea culpa for our inability to handle the clutch time. If we had had more composure, we’d have probably been able to turn things around”.

Sasha Starovic (Calzedonia Verona): “Three extremely valuable points for us today. We knew we were facing a tight game against a team that never gives up. Trento is always in the game, they never stop to fight, but except for the third set we played extremely well. We are satisfied with the result, now we’ll focus on the Challenge Cup return game in France and our last regular season game, which will be as important”.

LPR PIACENZA – SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA 2-3 (26-24, 19-25, 25-18, 22-25, 11-15) – LPR PIACENZA: Coscione, Kohut 8, Ter Horst, Perrin 20, Papi (L), Patriarca, Lampariello (L), Zlatanov 17, Luburic 20, Tencati 7, Tavares Rodrigues 3. DNP Sedlacek, Cottarelli. Coach. Giuliani.

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 10, Fromm 8, De Cecco 5, Kaliberda 3, Giovi (L), Russell 14, Dimitrov, Tzioumakas, Elia, Atanasijevic 31, Birarelli 8. DNP Holt, Franceschini, Fanuli. Coach. Kovac.

Piacenza gave it a good fight right until the end, but it’s Perugia who eventually clinched it in the tie-break. Led by a terrific Atanasijevic (31 points), the visitors took two points and remain in the race for fourth place with Verona. Piacenza stays bottom with 8 points. MVP: Alexandar Atanasjievic (Sir Safety Conad Perugia)

Emanuele Birarelli (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We have not played a good game tonight. We had shown some progress on Wednesday night against Modena, but it’s not enough to play a good game every now and then. Things started badly tonight, then we did a good job of getting back in it against a Piacenza team that played well.

Miguel Tavares (LPR Volley Piacenza): “Shame we did not managed to maintain our good level of play till the end. Credit to Perugia who never gave up, and fought hard till the end to make it hard for us. It’s been a totally different game compared to our poor display against Latina, and I think the crowd enjoyed it. But we’re disappointed we did not take the two points”.

NINFA LATINA – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23)

NINFA LATINA: Mattei 1, Sottile 2, Sket 15, Pavlov 7, Romiti (L), Tailli, Hirsch 14, Yosifov 13, Rossi 3, Maruotti 6. DNP Krumins, Ferenciac. Coach. Placì.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Candellaro 4, Randazzo 1, Del Vecchio 6, De Barros Ferreira 11, Barone 6, De Pandis (L), Porcelli (L), Hierrezuelo 5, Fedrizzi 3, Hernandez Ramos 34. DNP Kaczynski, Spadavecchia, Mariella. Coach. Di Pinto.

Latina moves above Molfetta in the table thanks to this four-set victory and secures its place in the playoffs with a game to spare. MVP Viktor Yosifov (Ninfa Latina)

Viktor Yosifov (Ninfa Latina): “I have to congratulate every single one. We have won this game all together. In this league we’ve had ups and downs but in the end we have reached our goal”.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (coach Exprivia Molfetta): “We have wasted some opportunities in this championship and today we started to play from the third set, but we did not manage to turn things around. We missed a few counters too many. Then, when Pavlov came on, he brought new life into the Latina camp”.
