DHL MODENA – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA 1-3 (20-25, 27-29, 31-29, 22-25) – DHL MODENA: Mossa De Rezende 8, Donadio, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 21, Nikic 10, Piano 7, Bossi, Saatkamp 13, Vettori 17. DNP Soli, Casadei, Sartoretti, Sighinolfi. Coach. Lorenzetti.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA: Parodi, Juantorena 20, Stankovic 9, Priddy, Christenson 3, Cester 7, Grebennikov (L), Miljkovic 20, Corvetta, Cebulj 17. DNP Fei, Vitelli, Podrascanin. Coach. Blengini.

Civitanova looked sharper from the start and took the first set. Modena came in with more conviction in the second and that gave birth to a tight and spectacular set. It was 24-23 ahead but there again Civitanova managed to clinch it 29-27. In the third, Lorenzetti’s men found a break at 17-14 but the visitors immediately fought back. However, Ngapeth would have the last laugh after cancelling out several match points (31-29). Civitanova found a spurt at 20-15 in the fourth set, the hosts reacted but still couldn’t stop Blengini’s men from winning it and taking a three-point advantage at the top of the table. MVP Ivan Miljkovic (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova)

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach DHL Modena): “I know it’s strange to say this after a defeat but I want to congratulate my boys, because I know the situation we’re in. The group did very well, although I could say that we could have done better at the end of the second set”.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova): “We won against a great team. We did a great job in the clutch time and it’s clear that to prevail in Modena is always a great satisfaction”.

REVIVRE MILANO – CALZEDONIA VERONA 0-3 (25-27, 17-25, 25-27)

REVIVRE MILANO: Milushev 3, Alletti 9, Sbertoli 1, Skrimov 17, Russomanno Dos Santos 4, Tosi (L), Baranek 9, Boninfante 1, Georgiev 9, Marretta. DNP Gavenda, De Togni, Rivan, Burgsthaler. Coach. Monti.

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel, Kovacevic 12, Pesaresi (L), Gitto 10, Spirito, Baranowicz 3, Starovic 7, Bellei, Sander 14, Anzani 7. DNP Lecat, Frigo, Bucko. Coach. Giani.

In a hard-fought encounter, Verona came back from Milan with a straight set victory. Giani’s men proved more clinical at the end of sets. Milan was without the injured middle blockers Burgsthaler and De Togni but had the latest signing Georgiev on. He had an excellent debut game with 9 points, 75% in attack and 3 blocks. Today Verona was too strong at the net: 13 total blocks, 5 for Carmelo Gitto, who was named MVP.

Aimone Alletti (Revivre Milano): “A very tight encounter in which, in my opinion, we threw away the first and third set. The result is deceiving, but we paid the price for those moments in which we lacked composure, those that would have helped us seal the sets. The feeling on court was good though, the team proved it could play face to face with a strong team like Verona”.

Andrea Giani (coach Calzedonia Verona): “The only medicine I know is victory. We have to get a series of them. We did it tonight after a good game in the Challenge Cup on Wednesday. These are hard-fought games like these that will help us get better because we have to find the strength to stay in the game. This is a very important win for us”.

NINFA LATINA – DIATEC TRENTINO 1-3 (23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-25)

NINFA LATINA: Mattei 2, Sottile, Pavlov 20, Romiti (L), Tailli 10, Hirsch 1, Yosifov 7, Rossi 7, Maruotti 13. DNP Krumins, Sket, Ferenciac. Coach. Placì.

DIATEC TRENTINO: Nelli 19, Antonov 12, Mazzone, Bratoev, De Angelis, Giannelli 4, Solé 13, Djuric, Colaci (L), Van De Voorde 3, Urnaut 23, Mazzone. DNP Lanza. Coach. Stoytchev.

Trento gathered a four-set victory in Latina. The first two sets were played at a very high level from the two setters of the Italian national teams. Then, Trento’s character prevailed. The visitors finished the game with 13 blocks and 51% in attack. Tine Urnaut was named MVP, he received great applause from his former club.

Daniele Sottile (Ninfa Latina): “We have reached the final rush. We have to win our next two games and give our very best. These will be two finals for us. There’s no point doing too much thinking anymore, if we want the playoffs we need victories”.

Tine Urnaut (Diatec Trentino): “Latina is always a tough place to go to, they always play well at home. We managed to get back on track after the second set lost and we took three important points. We’re still in the run for ambitious prizes and we’ll give it our best shot till the end of the regular season”.

GI GROUP MONZA – LPR PIACENZA 3-1 (15-25, 25-21, 25-20, 28-26)

GI GROUP MONZA: Raic 25, Sala 2, Galliani 1, Jovovic 1, Rizzo (L), Botto 12, Verhees 10, Beretta 11, Rousseaux 10. DNP Daldello, Mercorio, Brunetti, Zanatta Buiatti, Gao. Coach. Vacondio.

LPR PIACENZA: Coscione 3, Ter Horst 1, Perrin 15, Papi 15, Patriarca 7, Lampariello (L), Zlatanov 22, Tencati 7, Tavares Rodrigues. DNP Kohut, Sedlacek, Cottarelli. Coach. Giuliani.

Monza snatched three crucial points at the expense of Piacenza in front of over 1600 fans. This is the first home victory in the second half of season for Vacondio’s men, who were led by an unstoppable Raic (25 points, 6 aces). Botto had flashes of brilliance, while the middle blockers Verhees and Beretta were explosive (2 and 3 blocks respectively for 10 and 11 points).

MVP Ivan Raic (Gi Group Monza)

Ivan Raic (Gi Group Monza): “Crucial victory. Three very important points which keep our hopes of playoffs alive. We definitely did not have the best of start, we felt the pressure, we needed a result and were not playing at our usual standard. But then, just like against Molfetta and Perugia, we found our game. Our character helped us turn things around and take all three points against a team full of experience and ability, in spite of what their league position says”.

Stefano Patriarca (LPR Piacenza): “What we lacked tonight is what we’ve been missing all season long: consistency. In the clutch time of the sets, we struggle to maintain our rhythm and we allow teams to come back. Shame because we might have deserved a little something more. But we still have time to work, given that in the playoffs for the Challenge Cup, we’ll basically start from scratch”.

CMC ROMAGNA – TONAZZO PADOVA 2-3 (24-26, 23-25, 27-25, 27-25, 13-15)

CMC ROMAGNA: Mengozzi 9, Ricci 9, Cavanna 1, Della Lunga 4, Van Garderen 20, Polo 2, Koumentakis 7, Goi (L), Torres 25, Boswinkel, Bari (L), Perini De Aviz. DNP Zappoli. Coach. Kantor.

TONAZZO PADOVA: Cook 19, Leoni 1, Orduna 4, Giannotti 24, Balaso (L), Bassanello, Quiroga 12, Volpato 9, Averill 17, Milan 2, Diamantini 3. DNP Lazzaretto. Coach. Baldovin.

A show not suited to the people weak at heart. After two hours and a half and five tight sets, Padova eventually clinched it. The hosts were 8-4 up in the tie-break but Baldovin’s men ignited a come-back to clinch it. That was a game with a few mistakes from both teams but with some great digs and spectacular rallies. MVP Fabio Balaso (Tonazzo Padova).

Stefano Mengozzi (CMC Romagna): “Leading 8-4 when we changed sides was a nice advantage but once again we failed to hang on to it. It’s been a very tight encounter. We have been a bit too nervous and that influenced the game. I hope we’ll face the coming games with a different attitude”.

Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “Extremely hard-fought game. We did some good things but then we struggled to keep it up, we found it hard physically too. The sets were tight and the emotional side played its part. A game of spurts, and I want to congratulate their dig who made life very hard for us for most of the game”.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA – SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 15-11) – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Candellaro 8, Randazzo 7, Del Vecchio, De Barros Ferreira 14, Barone 4, De Pandis (L), Hierrezuelo 8, Fedrizzi 2, Hernandez Ramos 32. DNP Kaczynski, Spadavecchia, Mariella, Porcelli. Coach. Di Pinto.

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 14, Fromm 10, De Cecco 2, Kaliberda 1, Giovi (L), Russell 11, Tzioumakas, Elia 3, Atanasijevic 27, Fanuli, Birarelli 8. DNP Holt, Dimitrov. Coach. Kovac.

At the end of a game packed with emotions, Molfetta clinched it at the tie-break coming back from two sets down against Perugia. Somehow, in the third set, the hosts found their focus, character and fighting spirit. The MVP was once again Fernando Hernandez, who scored 32 points (48% in attack, 4 aces). He was inspired by an excellent distribution from setter Hierrezuelo, who also registered two blocks.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (coach Exprivia Molfetta): “We should always play high level volleyball. There’s no individuals in our sport. In the last three sets, we executed like we had to do. We made less mistakes and imposed our game. We have worked on our reception and serve. I am happy to be here. There’s a great atmosphere and will to do well”.

Slobodan Kovac (coach Sir Safety Perugia): “We faded in the last three sets. We started to struggle to receive their serve and contain their spikers. I don’t think my guys had already their minds on Modena. Each game is important and we can’t afford to play well for only two sets, especially against a team that has such supporters behind them”.
