LPR PIACENZA – DIATEC TRENTINO 0-3 (14-25, 17-25, 15-25)

LPR PIACENZA: Coscione, Kohut 3, Ter Horst 8, Perrin 11, Papi 1, Lampariello (L), Zlatanov 3, Luburic 3, Tencati 6. DNP          Patriarca, Tavares Rodrigues, Cottarelli. Coach. Giuliani.

DIATEC TRENTINO: Nelli 1, Mazzone 2, Bratoev, Giannelli 5, Lanza 6, Solé 9, Djuric 12, Colaci (L), Van De Voorde 9, Urnaut 9. DNP Antonov, De Angelis, Mazzone. Coach. Stoytchev.

Trento came out of the PalaBanca arena with a straight sets victory against Piacenza. While the visitors got away with three important points, the hosts will stand still with 6 points and feel very downhearted. In the first and third set, Piacenza had their opponents sprinting out of the starting blocks and could do very little to slow them down. MVP Simone Giannelli (Diatec Trentino)

Samuele Papi (Lpr Volley Piacenza): “It’s not been a good game. We definitely did not expect to win, but we should have done better. Since the game against Macerata we have not made any progress, on the contrary. It’s disappointing because we work well in training but the game is a different matter. We have to win as soon as possible or at least fight to reach a tie-break. We have to improve our game, when we don’t manage to stay close to our opponent we lose confidence”.

Tine Urnaut (Diatec Trentino): “I am thrilled we managed to take all three points, it’s important for the league table. We played well from the start and built early leads, and then we did a good job of maintaining those advantages. We played at a good level today, I am quite satisfied”.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA – REVIVRE MILANO 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-21)

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Candellaro 3, Randazzo 2, De Barros Ferreira 9, Barone 4, De Pandis (L), Hierrezuelo 4, Fedrizzi 7, Hernandez Ramos 23. DNP Kaczynski, Spadavecchia, Mariella, Del Vecchio, Porcelli. Coach. Montagnani.

REVIVRE MILANO: Milushev 14, Alletti 4, Skrimov 8, Russomanno Dos Santos 2, Tosi (L), De Togni 4, Boninfante 5, Burgsthaler, Marretta 1. DNP Gavenda, Sbertoli, Rivan, Baranek. Coach. Monti.

In a renovated PalaPoli arena for this second part of season, Molfetta had a terrific performance. They got rid of Milan in three sets and managed to hold off any attempts to come-back in the game from their opponent. Before the encounter Hernandez received the MVP award for the month of December and thanks to another superb display, he then received the MVP of the match as he scored 23 points at 76%.

Fernando Hernandez Ramos (Exprivia Molfetta): “I received the MVP award but I think we all had a good game. We have to stay composed and focused for the coming games. The playoffs are getting closer now. We can’t afford to get carried away, we must keep our feet on the ground”.

Dante Boninfante (Revivre Milano): “In the first two sets, Molfetta’s serves made the difference. Hernandez really hurt us and our counter has not often been very productive. In each set, we stayed close till the halfway point, then we let them escape, while in the third set we should have shown some pride, but we didn’t”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA – TONAZZO PADOVA 3-2 (20-25, 25-22, 25-14, 20-25, 17-15) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA: Fei 9, Parodi, Juantorena 14, Priddy 9, Christenson 5, Cester 15, Grebennikov (L), Miljkovic 3, Corvetta, Cebulj 7, Podrascanin 15. DNP Vitelli, Stankovic. Coach. Blengini.

TONAZZO PADOVA: Cook 11, Leoni, Orduna 4, Giannotti 23, Balaso (L), Bassanello, Quiroga 6, Volpato 2, Averill 8, Berger 11, Milan, Diamantini 5. DNP Lazzaretto. Coach. Baldovin.

Civitanova needed five sets and two hours and a half to obtain the victory over Padova. A crucial win although Modena now has a two-point advantage at the top. All eyes were on the new signing Priddy, and the US spiker came on at 18-20 in the second with the hosts already one set down. He helped the team tie it at 20 and then the hosts escaped to go level at 1 set all thanks to blocks from Podrascanin and Christenson. Priddy started in a third set which was easily won. The North American ended the game with 9 points, 57% in attack, 67% in reception. Top scorer of the game with 23 points, Giannotti got his team back on track in the fourth, while in the fifth Padova had two match points before losing it on Miljkovic’s run of serves with points from Juantorena and Podrascanin. MVP Enrico Cester (Cucine Lube Banca Marche)

Osmany Juantorena (Cucine Lube Banca Marche): “We knew it was going to be a difficult game. This tie-break should not be a surprise for anyone. Padova is a team that plays excellent volleyball, they play good dig and tonight they also hit their serve hard with good results. But we still took two good points, it’s not one lost. Next is Perugia on Wednesday, a crucial game for us”.

Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “It’s a shame to lose 17-15 at the tie-break but we’d have been happy with that before the game. Overall we had an excellent game, our opponents eventually managed to snatch it thanks to the talent of their many super stars. When they were trailing, they had Miljkovic and Priddy coming on, not exactly bad players to pick out from your bench”.

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA – CMC ROMAGNA 3-2 (27-29, 22-25, 25-23, 25-17, 15-11) – SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 2, Fromm 21, Holt, De Cecco 3, Kaliberda 15, Giovi (L), Elia 7, Franceschini, Atanasijevic 24, Fanuli, Birarelli 13. DNP Dimitrov. Coach. Kovac.

CMC ROMAGNA: Mengozzi 7, Ricci 6, Cavanna 2, Zappoli 4, Della Lunga 14, Van Garderen 1, Polo 3, Koumentakis, Goi (L), Torres 33, Boswinkel, Bari (L), Perini De Aviz. Coach. Kantor.

Perugia went back from the dead to clinch victory over Romagna. Pushed by over three thousand fans, Kovac’s men came back from 2-0 and 11-17 down in the third to complete an extraordinary come-back. Perugia was without Russell and Tzioumakas, and Ravenna was led by the agile hands of Cavanna, Torres and Della Lunga. But at one point, Elia (MVP) came on and things changed. Fromm and Atanasijevic found their rhythm in attack while Romagna started to make a couple of mistakes here and there. Explosion of joy from the crowd at the end of the tie-break as the hosts took two very unlikely points if we look at how things were going.

Alberto Elia (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We are delighted with this result in an intense period for us. We might have felt this would be a comfortable win but instead Romagna played well and dominated us at the start of the game. Then we did what we had to do and fought back to get an extremely important result. In my opinion, the crowd has been key today, they really helped us not to give up and pushed us towards that victory”.

Stefano Mengozzi (Cmc Ravenna): “It’s a big disappointment, we can honestly say it. We could easily have taken the three points, we had our chances. We let it all go in the third set when we were 17-11 up, we should have sealed it there. But instead we let them back in it, and given how strong is Perugia, once they were in it, they never slowed down”.

DHL MODENA – GI GROUP MONZA 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 28-26)

DHL MODENA: Mossa De Rezende 3, Petric 9, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 11, Nikic 1, Bossi 5, Saatkamp 9, Vettori 15, Sighinolfi 1. DNP Donadio, Soli, Casadei, Sartoretti. Coach. Lorenzetti.

GI GROUP MONZA: Raic 9, Sala, Daldello, Galliani 14, Brunetti, Rizzo (L), Botto 8, Verhees 3, Beretta 6, Zanatta Buiatti 7. DNP Mercorio, Rousseaux, Gao. Coach. Vacondio.

Tight early first set with some good digs. Modena clinched it 25-22, then Monza got off to a strong start in the second (9-14) but Modena stepped up a gear (21-20) and won it. In the third, Daldello did a great job as he was in for Jovovic tonight: Monza was up 21-19. The hosts did not give up though, and tied it at 24 before winning it 28-26. MVP Luca Vettori (DHL Modena)

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach DHL Modena): “We won an extremely difficult game against a team that played some excellent volleyball. My boys did a great job of staying in the game. Congratulations to them. Now we have another important challenge coming up against Latina”.

Oreste Vacondio (coach Gi Group Monza): “We have lost against a great team but I am satisfied with my boys because they proved that Monza can really give a game to anyone”.

CALZEDONIA VERONA – NINFA LATINA 2-3 (25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 25-19, 13-15) – CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 14, Kovacevic 20, Pesaresi (L), Gitto, Lecat 7, Spirito, Baranowicz 3, Bellei 10, Sander 20, Anzani 10. DNP Frigo, Starovic, Bucko. Coach. Giani.

NINFA LATINA: Krumins, Mattei 4, Sottile 5, Sket 15, Pavlov 3, Romiti (L), Tailli, Hirsch 25, Yosifov 6, Rossi 2, Maruotti 12. DNP Ferenciac. Coach. Placì.

Latina upset Verona on the road. Molfetta had beaten Verona at the tie-break last week and now it was Latina’s turn to do it in the fifth set. Verona won the first and fourth set, Latina the others. Hirsch was the top scorer of the game with 25 points, he was named MVP. Nicola Pesaresi celebrated his hundredth appearance with the Verona shirt.

Calzedonia Verona No press release

Daniele Sottile (Ninfa Latina): “Definitely a great victory and two important points, even crucial in the race for a playoff spot, especially in such a difficult gym. Verona is one of the top teams of this league so these points are extremely valuable. In the fourth set we had a couple of black-outs but we did a great job of getting back on our feet”.
