European Cups

European cup action resume this weekend. In the Champions League, it’s time for the group phase round 5, in the CEV Cup we’re at the quarter-final stage, while the Challenge Cup has reached the 8th of finals.

2016 CEV DenizBank Champions League

On Tuesday, Trentino plays host to PAOK Thessaloniki. In spite of the tie-break loss in the last round against Tours, Trento is top of the group. The Greeks are almost out of the race for the Playoffs 12. In the first meeting, the Italian champions had won it 3-1.

On Wednesday, Civitanova will have a chance to secure its place in the next round when they host Belchatow, who stands three points behind in second place.  A win on any score would guarantee the first place for Blengini’s men.

Finally, on Thursday, Modena will be in Poland to take on the Polish side of Gdansk, coached by the Italian Andrea Anastasi.  Modena is already certain to take part in the Playoffs 12 but they will now try to secure top spot. Modena has yet to concede a set but careful to the Pols who are very tough to manoeuvre at home.
