Diatec Trentino-Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 16-14); CMC Romagna-Revivre Milano 2-3 (25-20, 25-15, 21-25, 22-25, 12-15); Tonazzo Padova-DHL Modena 0-3 (20-25, 18-25, 23-25); Gi Group Monza-Calzedonia Verona 1-3 (25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 22-25); Ninfa Latina-Sir Safety Conad Perugia 0-3 (22-25, 22-25, 19-25); LPR Piacenza-Exprivia Molfetta 0-3 (22-25, 20-25, 12-25)

LPR PIACENZA – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA 0-3 (22-25, 20-25, 12-25)

LPR PIACENZA: Coscione, Kohut 5, Ter Horst 8, Perrin 6, Patriarca 4, Lampariello (L), Zlatanov 9, Luburic 4, Tavares Rodrigues 1. DNP Sedlacek, Tencati, Cottarelli. Coach. Giuliani.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Candellaro 12, Randazzo 5, Mariella, De Barros Ferreira 1, Barone 6, De Pandis (L), Hierrezuelo 3, Fedrizzi 15, Hernandez Ramos 13. DNP Kaczynski, Spadavecchia, Del Vecchio, Porcelli. Coach. Montagnani.

Three important points for Molfetta. Another defeat for Piacenza. The Southerners lost Rafael halfway through the first set because of an ankle injury. The hosts gave it a good fight in that first set, they struggled to receive the serve of Cuban outside hitter Hernandez in the second while they never got in the game in the third set. MVP Fernando Hernandez (Exprivia Molfetta)

Thijs Ter Horst (Lpr Volley Piacenza): “We gave everything we had, we played with fighting spirit and passion. A referee decision and a block left us two point behind in the first set. In the second, we got off to a poor start, but then played face to face. The problem is that when we fall behind we can’t seem to find our way back. The third set is one to forget”.

Michele Fedrizzi (Exprivia Molfetta): “We came here in Piacenza more motivated than ever. We really wanted to finish this first half of season on a high. Modena is next, we want to try to play some good volleyball”.

NINFA LATINA – SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA 0-3 (22-25, 22-25, 19-25)

NINFA LATINA: Krumins, Mattei, Sottile 1, Sket 12, Romiti (L), Tailli, Hirsch 17, Yosifov 5, Rossi 5, Maruotti 3. DNP Pavlov, Ferenciac. Coach. Placì.

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 6, Holt, De Cecco 3, Kaliberda 7, Giovi (L), Russell 15, Tzioumakas, Atanasijevic 21, Fanuli, Birarelli 6. DNP Dimitrov, Elia, Franceschini. Coach. Fontana.

Latina gave Perugia a game in the first two sets before losing its way. The first set was tight but Atanasijevic made the difference. Same story in the second except that it was Kaliberda to give the killer touch. The visitors escaped at the start of the third and sealed the game without any problem. MVP Aleksandar Atanasijevic (Sir Safety Conad Perugia)

Simone Buti (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We played well today. It was not easy here. We have all been focused in every fundamental and things went well. But we must keep improving, the new coach is coming, one thing we definitely have to work on is our serve”.

Camillo Placì (coach Ninfa Latina): “The outcome of the first set was probably key. This doesn’t mean we could have won it. If I look back on the first half of season, I’d say it was positive, especially considering the effort this group puts in every day in the gym”.

TONAZZO PADOVA – DHL MODENA 0-3 (20-25, 18-25, 23-25)

TONAZZO PADOVA: Cook 5, Leoni, Orduna 1, Giannotti 13, Balaso (L), Quiroga 3, Volpato 3, Averill 6, Berger 11, Milan, Diamantini. DNP Bassanello, Lazzaretto. Coach. Baldovin.

DHL MODENA: Mossa De Rezende 9, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 12, Nikic 7, Piano 6, Saatkamp 4, Vettori 12. DNP Donadio, Petric, Soli, Casadei, Sartoretti, Bossi, Sighinolfi. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Thanks to this 3-0 win in Padova, Modena ends the first half of season on top of the pile. Padova made too many mistakes in the first two sets and Modena took full advantage. In the third, it was Modena’s turn to give a few points away, so much so that the hosts were 22-20 ahead. But then Bruno came in at the serve, firing it hard and Modena clinched it. MVP Mossa De Rezende Bruno Bruninho (DHL Modena)

Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): «We struggled to find our rhythm from the start. We have been too nervous in certain situations. They faded in the third on the serve and attack. Shame we wasted that opportunity to get back in the game. On Sunday, we’ll face Latina, who has different targets than Modena. But if we want to take points, we’ll need to play with a different quality and find our rhythm from the get-go”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach DHL Modena): «Being top of the league at the halfway point has no value whatsoever, but this is part of a positive journey to celebrate with the fans. This is why we went to see them at the end of the game. Compared to last season, this group shows all its intention to face the coming games as a unit”.

DIATEC TRENTINO – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 16-14) – DIATEC TRENTINO: Antonov 1, Bratoev, De Angelis, Giannelli 3, Lanza 18, Solé 8, Djuric 23, Colaci (L), Urnaut 14, Mazzone 8. DNP Mazzone, Van De Voorde. Coach. Stoytchev.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA: Fei 4, Parodi, Juantorena 20, Stankovic 2, Christenson 4, Cester 7, Grebennikov (L), Miljkovic 15, Corvetta, Cebulj 10, Podrascanin 13. DNP Gabriele, Vitelli. Coach. Blengini.

The first half of season ends with an exciting victory over the leaders Civitanova. The Italian Champions remain unbeaten at home in the league and consolidate this third place they had obtained last Tuesday in Verona. Over two hours and ten minutes were needed to overcome Civitanova, who registered its second defeat of the season. This was Juantorena’s return in Trento, and the home fans welcomed him with a special ovation.

Twice Civitanova seemed to be on its way to victory, first when it went 2-0 up and then in the tie-break at 14-11. But a never-die Trento side found resources to win an epic battle in the third, dominate the fourth and then inflict a 5-0 spurt to seal the tie-break. MVP Filippo Lanza (Diatec Trentino)

Filippo Lanza (Diatec Trentino): “We never stop believing. This is our team’s prerogative. At 2-0 down and behind 11-14 in the tie-break we never gave up and fought back. This is a superb victory against a great team. But we know we can’t afford to have too many black-outs”.

Osmany Juantorena (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova): “We knew it was going to be a tough game. We played well in the first two sets but then we did not convert our opportunities to seal it. Congratulations to Trento for believing. They have a very strong team. This was a special feeling to play here in the PalaTrento arena, but I managed to overcome that. I want to thank everyone for the special welcoming I received”.

GI GROUP MONZA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 1-3 (25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 22-25)

GI GROUP MONZA: Galliani 10, Brunetti (L), Jovovic 1, Rizzo (L), Botto 11, Verhees 9, Beretta 10, Zanatta Buiatti 20, Rousseaux. DNP Copelli, Sala, Daldello, Mercorio, Gao. Coach. Vacondio.

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 5, Kovacevic 20, Pesaresi (L), Gitto, Lecat, Spirito, Baranowicz, Starovic 19, Bellei 4, Sander 20, Anzani 7. DNP Frigo, Bucko. Coach. Giani.

Great plays and excellent volleyball from both teams made this a lovely game to watch. In the end, Giani’s men came out on top. Monza could not take advantage of Latina’s loss to move above them, which means they finish 8th and will have to play Modena in the Italian Cup quarter-finals. MVP Uros Kovacevic (Calzedonia Verona)

(Renan Zanatta Buiatti (Gi Group Team Monza): “Given the way it went, we might have deserved a little something more. Credit to Verona for playing well and finding a way out of the difficult times when we managed to recover from our deficits. We played excellent volleyball for most of the game, but we could not avoid those mistakes, silly ones at times, which cost dear against a top team like Verona. Before the cup game against Modena, we’ll face Trento at home. We have a week to get ready and work on the things that did not go too well tonight. But we’re confident, we had a good game. We know we can do great things in the future”.

Sasha Starovic (Calzedonia Verona): “We knew it would not be easy away from home against Monza. They always play good volleyball at home. We did not start off with our usual determination, we were a bit under pressure, we needed the three points to stay in front of Perugia. This is an important win, we’ve been doing well of late, this will give us confidence for the coming games”.

CMC ROMAGNA – REVIVRE MILANO 2-3 (25-20, 25-15, 21-25, 22-25, 12-15)

CMC ROMAGNA: Mengozzi 8, Ricci 3, Cavanna 3, Della Lunga 13, Van Garderen 18, Polo 6, Koumentakis 10, Goi (L), Torres 20, Boswinkel, Bari (L), Perini De Aviz. DNP Zappoli. Coach. Kantor.

REVIVRE MILANO: Milushev 11, Alletti 3, Sbertoli, Skrimov 22, Russomanno Dos Santos 13, Tosi (L), De Togni 9, Baranek 4, Boninfante 3, Burgsthaler 4. DNP Gavenda, Rivan, Marretta. Coach. Monti.

In its second game of the season in Ravenna, CMC Romagna could not do the job in spite of two first set that were all one-way traffic, Milan resurrected in the third, when Baranek came on for Milushev, and celebrated its first win of the season in the fifth set. MVP Skrimov Todor (Revivre Milano).

Todor Skrimov (Revivre Milano): “We had a terrible start, then we got angry with ourselves, including the coach, and we managed to play good volleyball from the third set on. This first win is extremely important for us. We felt we had been close in the last three games. Hopefully, we’ll win again in the next game against Piacenza”.

Andrea Bari (CMC Romagna): “Unfortunately, our flaws are still the same. At times we play some good volleyball, but then as soon as it gets tough we lose our way and can’t find our way out of trouble. Today, we could and should have sealed it in three sets, but instead we failed to do it and they turned things around”.
