Piacenza can’t find a way to victory no more. Giuliani’s men were 2-0 up but were pegged back before losing it at the tie-break against Monza, which were looking for points to stay in the playoffs zone. Libero Manià went out injured (shoulder) in the first set. Papi took his place before getting injured too in the last set. Piacenza showed character and some quality in the first two sets but Monza never ceased to believe, and led by Botto (MVP with 18 points), they fought back to register a valuable victory.
Ter Horst (Lpr Volley Piacenza): “We played well for the first two sets. In the third, we should have played harder to put Monza in trouble, but we failed to do so. We let them back in it and they took full advantage. We did not manage to maintain our level of play”.
Oreste Vacondio (coach Gi Group Monza): “This was a big game for us as well as for them. They wanted the win to get back in the playoffs race, while we wanted to stay in the top 8. I am extremely satisfied with this performance. We won it thanks to some substitutions. Extremely satisfied too with Sala and Gao”.
