Round 8 round up
SuperLega UnipolSai results:
Diatec Trentino-Ninfa Latina 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-16); Sir Safety Conad Perugia-Exprivia Molfetta 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-16); Calzedonia Verona-Revivre Milano 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 27-25); LPR Piacenza-Gi Group Monza 01/12/2015 at 20:30 Live on RAI Sport 1; Tonazzo Padova-CMC Romagna 3-0 (30-28, 25-20, 28-26); Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova-DHL Modena 2-3 (22-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-17).
SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-16) – SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 7, Fromm 11, De Cecco 5, Kaliberda 8, Giovi (L), Russell, Tzioumakas, Atanasijevic 17, Fanuli, Birarelli 3. DNP Holt, Dimitrov, Elia. Coach. Castellani.
EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Kaczynski, Candellaro 8, Randazzo 2, Del Vecchio, De Barros Ferreira 5, Barone 6, De Pandis (L), Hierrezuelo 3, Fedrizzi 1, Hernandez Ramos 15. DNP Spadavecchia, Mariella, Porcelli. Coach. Montagnani.
A week worth 9 points for Perugia. They remain third in the table thanks to this latest victory ahead of next Sunday’s big match in Modena. Montagnani’s men fought hard for two sets before being dominated by the hosts in the third because of their superb blocking (7 of 11 in the third set). MVP Atanasijevic had a big night with 17 points, which was a bit marred by the expulsion for protest in the end.
Emanuele Birarelli (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “Thrilled with this win. These last three games were extremely important and it was crucial to take 9 points because I think the top teams should not get those type of games wrong. Now we’ll play in the European cup and then play in Modena, clearly a tough one. We’ll need to sacrifice ourselves, do the best we can and try to get something positive out of it”.
Rocco Barone (Exprivia Molfetta): “Unfortunately, it went all wrong. I think we played some good volleyball in the first two sets. Our mistakes on the serve have probably cost us dear, but credit to Perugia who had a great game. I have to say I was kind of moved to be back here, I struggled to find my concentration. Then, I tried to do my best as a professional, but Perugia is a club where I lived special moments, it will always be in my heart”.
CALZEDONIA VERONA – REVIVRE MILANO 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 27-25) – CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 12, Kovacevic 14, Pesaresi (L), Spirito, Baranowicz 1, Starovic 12, Bellei, Sander 10, Anzani 9. DNP Gitto, Lecat, Frigo, Bucko. Coach. Giani.
REVIVRE MILANO: Milushev 4, Gavenda, Alletti 9, Sbertoli 1, Skrimov 13, Russomanno Dos Santos 14, Tosi (L), De Togni 1, Baranek 1, Burgsthaler 5. DNP Sottile, Rivan, Marretta. Coach. Monti.
Verona disposed of Milan in straight sets. A victory built on an accurate attack (61%) and imposing blocking (13 overall, 4 each for Zingel, Starovic and Anzani). Pretty much all one-way traffic. MVP Sasha Starovic (Calzedonia Verona)
Sasha Starovic (Calzedonia Verona): “This is an important victory. I am happy I received the MVP award but I am even happier with the fact we’re on the right track. This is the way to go, we have to keep playing like that against Ravenna as well as in the Challenge Cup against Zwolle. If we keep improving constantly we’ll enjoy a good season”.
Riccardo Sbertoli (Revivre Milano): “Every time we reached the end of the set they always had that little something extra which we could not find ourselves. They would go on the serve, hit it as hard as they could and it was difficult to receive against such strong servers. In the clutch time, they managed to serve at 100%, while we didn’t. Maybe that was the key to the game. In my opinion we had a good game, except for the very poor first set. At times in the second, and in almost all the third set we played face to face. I repeat, the difference was the serve at the end of the sets”.
DIATEC TRENTINO – NINFA LATINA 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-16) – DIATEC TRENTINO: Nelli 4, Antonov 8, Mazzone, De Angelis, Giannelli 2, Lanza 8, Solé 9, Djuric 15, Colaci (L), Van De Voorde 7, Urnaut. DNP Bratoev, Mazzone. Coach. Stoytchev.
NINFA LATINA: Krumins, Mattei 4, Sket 10, Romiti (L), Boninfante 3, Tailli, Hirsch 14, Yosifov 4, Rossi 3, Maruotti 2. DNP Pavlov, Ferenciac. Coach. Placì.
Trento bounced back from Wednesday’s defeat in the Apulia by taking all three points against Latina. The home supporters came in numbers to create a heated atmosphere and push the Italian champions towards their fifth home win in as many games. Giannelli distributed to perfection as Trento’s attack was the main factor of this game, but the determination at the net and in dig did not go amiss either. Djuric was named MVP with 15 points at 61% at the net.
Filippo Lanza (Diatec Trentino): “It was important to get back on track after the defeat in Molfetta. We’ve played with great determination and will to win. I think the intensity in dig was testimony of how much we wanted to bounce back. I personally really wanted to play a good game because I had been very poor in Molfetta”.
Camillo Placì (coach Ninfa Latina): “We managed to stay in it only in the first set, then we just let it slip away. Unfortunately, we don’t have much alternative on high balls, with Pavlov out, I had to use Tailli too in the third set, but I can’t ask him that much in that position. But our season has been positive so far, we have to be happy with what we’ve done”.
TONAZZO PADOVA – CMC ROMAGNA 3-0 (30-28, 25-20, 28-26) – TONAZZO PADOVA: Cook 12, Orduna 2, Giannotti, Balaso (L), Quiroga, Volpato 8, Averill 11, Berger 15, Milan 11, Diamantini. DNP Bassanello, Leoni, Lazzaretto. Coach. Baldovin.
CMC ROMAGNA: Mengozzi 5, Ricci, Cavanna 1, Della Lunga, Van Garderen 14, Polo 7, Koumentakis 10, Goi (L), Torres 22, Boswinkel 1, Bari (L), Perini De Aviz. DNP Zappoli. Coach. Kantor.
Romagna’s multiple mistakes on the serve greatly helped Padova, who did not make the most of it but still managed to snatch it in the end. Padova had the momentum and took the second set in their hands. Romagna tried to make various substitutions to turn things around but nothing changed. Thanks to a rather poor reception, Romagna tried to fight back in the third (12-9 up), but in the end an ace from Milan got Padova within 2 (22-20) and their outside hitter was not done. Assisted by Volpato, he helped Padova clinch it in straight sets (28-26). MVP Sebastiano Milan (Tonazzo Padova).
Alexander Berger (Tonazzo Padova): “A superb victory which came about thanks to the hard work of all the players. We played well in attack and in reception, and we obtained this excellent result after the Verona defeat which was difficult to take in. We’ll enjoy this win but we also have to start thinking about the coming game against Monza in which we’ll need to be as focused as we’ve been today”.
Stefano Mengozzi (CMC Romagna): “We did not manage to bounce back from the first set lost at the death. We thought too much of what had happened beforehand and Padova took full advantage. We’ll rest tomorrow, and a break might just be what we need because physically it has been a very tough week. Then we’ll have to focus on our next mission to try to bounce back”.
CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA – DHL MODENA 2-3 (22-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-17) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA: Parodi 5, Juantorena 28, Stankovic 3, Christenson 1, Cester 3, Grebennikov (L), Miljkovic 18, Cebulj 5, Podrascanin 9. DNP Fei, Gabriele, Vitelli, Corvetta. Coach. Blengini.
DHL MODENA: Mossa De Rezende 1, Petric 3, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 24, Nikic 6, Piano 7, Bossi, Saatkamp 14, Vettori 17. DNP Donadio, Soli, Casadei, Sartoretti, Sighinolfi. Coach. Lorenzetti.
Pure show time, adrenaline to the top for over two hours of play. The big match of the weekend saw the superb come-back of Civitanova from 2-0 down to 2-2. Modena eventually came back from the dead by saving two match points and taking two points at the tie-break. This was the first defeat of the season for Blengini’s men, who had put together a string of nine consecutive wins. MVP Osmany Juantorena (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova)
Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche): “We’re disappointed with the way it all ended, given that we had a 2-3 point advantage in the fifth set. At times, games are decided on details. I want to underline the excellent reception of the boys after the first two sets in which we really struggled. We definitely stepped up a gear from the third set on. This is the level of play seen from there we have to build on.
Angelo Lorenzetti (coach DHL Modena): “I am extremely satisfied with what the boys have done today, even if it has to be said that Civitanova started off a bit tense. They stepped up afterwards because we allowed them to get back in the game. This is exactly on this aspect we’ll have to work hard.
