Another three points in the bag for Verona at the expense of Piacenza, who went close to a tie-break but couldn’t hold off Verona’s come-back in the fourth set, letting a four-point advantage slip away. A solid and spectacular Kovacevic scored 19 and was once again MVP of the encounter.
Sasha Starovic (Calzedonia Verona): “Three huge points for us. I am extremely happy and satisfied with this home victory, the first one in our PalaOlimpia arena. Piacenza did well in the first and fourth set, but we managed to step up in the clutch time”.
Alberto Giuliani (coach LPR Piacenza): “Unlike the other games, this time we gave it a good fight during the whole encounter. The team has made some improvement on the physical side, I think we have a good basis to work on. Verona played good volleyball, they never gave anything away. It will be tough for everyone to get a result in their gym”.

The Marseillaise resounded in the PalaPanini arena in a surreal atmosphere. Then the minute of silence for all the victims of the terrorists attacks in Paris. Three days after it win in Monza, Modena came out on top again in straight sets with Salvatore Rossini as MVP.
Angelo Lorenzetti (coach DHL Modena): “We won a difficult game. The boys did a great job of maintaining their focus, Latina is a top quality team. After a bit of rest, I mean, one night of rest, we’ll go back full speed. On Thursday we’ll have the Champions League before going to Trento on Sunday”.
Camillo Placì (coach Ninfa Latina): “We lost against a great team but I am satisfied with my boys. We have been playing some excellent volleyball in this beginning of season. We’ll go back to work knowing we have what it takes to do well”.

The Italian champions were the favourites and indeed this went just like the last 8 encounters between the two teams. Led by a good performance from the MVP Van Garderen, CMC Romagna did give it a try but Trento eventually sealed it in straight sets in an hour and a half and took all three points.

Simone Giannelli (Diatec Trentino): “It’s not been the greatest of games. The level of play was not very high and when you have a bad day, what matters the most is the result. We’re glad we won it, we’ll just go back to the gym to get better and work on the things that did not work out for us. We have to prepare for the European Cup game coming up in Thessaloniki so taking this result before going to Greece is perfect”.
Alberto Polo (CMC Romagna): “Our opponents did not play at their best, but they are extremely solid. Even without playing at 100%, they still manage to make it very tough for you. We could have done better, we could have been more efficient on the serve and in reception. We’ll try again with more determination in the next game”.

Basically a one-way traffic game. Hernandez was not hundred percent fit but he was still named MVP. Joao Rafael had shown the way for Molfetta in the first set, Padova reacted in the second but could not clinch it.
Flavio Gulinelli (coach Exprivia Molfetta): “I am satisfied. We’re working hard to be able to take points from any game and our league position is testimony of this hard work. The team now has to work further to be ready for next Sunday. I’ll remind the boys on Tuesday. We have margin for improvement. The serve made the difference today, even if we have not been that consistent”.
Enrico Diamantini (Tonazzo Padova): “Molfetta made the difference on the serve. In the second and third set we were very close to their level of play. We have to be careful not to make too many mistakes to take points just like we did against Piacenza but failed to do against Trento, Civitanova and Molfetta, games in which the talent of individual players made the difference”.

Civitanova came back from Perugia with a three-set victory in the big match of round 5. A deserved success for the band of MVP Juantorena, always in the front line in the clutch time. Miljkovic was another of the main architects of this victory. Winners over Trento last week, the Block Devils could not beat another giant as they struggled in reception and failed to find offensive alternative to Atanasijevic and Fromm.
Luciano De Cecco (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “One of the fundamentals that did not go too well was our serve. We really made too many mistakes. I think it is not a question of technique but character. Unfortunately, when we face important games we lack a little bit of sharpness. We have to work on our focus and stay humble as we prepare for the next game”.
Alessandro Fei (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova): “We had a superb game. Perugia had an under par performance, especially in the first set. They started to improve at the start of the second but we stayed focus and maintained our level of play”.
