In front of a record crowd of 2500, Monza could not make the breakthrough against Trentino. The Italian Champions won it 3-1 thanks to an excellent performance in the block-dig department and a superb Gabriele Nelli who finished the game with 18 points and the MVP award of the match. Still, Monza will feel it did not do too bad, the players showed a lot of character, especially in the clutch moments of the game, and they seemed to already have a good understanding between them.

Thomas Beretta (Gi Group Monza): “I think we’d at least deserved the tie-break. We have always been there and we never gave up, we played with fighting spirit and generosity. But we have to congratulate Trento who played better than us, they proved they are a strong team. Still, I am satisfied with the performance, we played as a unit, without putting our heads down, and when it got tricky we reacted well. If we can make less mistakes in the coming games, I am sure the results will come”.
Radostin Stoytchev (Coach Diatec Trentino): “I am happy with the three points but also with the performance of the team who managed to fight through what was a very tricky situation for many reasons. This is therefore an important result and the way we obtained it is encouraging. There were various interesting things, and we were without two important players like Urnaut and Djuric. In the meantime, we work hard with the players we have, like Antonov, Lanza and Nelli who has really been excellent in the key moment of the game today, between the third and fourth set. We also improved as the match wore on in every area of the game. We’ll now focus on the next encounter, finally at home”.
