Modena’s PalaPanini arena will be the venue of the season’s first trophy, the Del Monte Super Cup, for the third time in history. The first was in 2002 (Cuneo-Modena) and the second was in 2012 (Macerata-Trento). This 20th edition will put face to face the Italian champions of Trentino and the cup winners of Modena. The two clubs will play on the Mondo tricolour court. They only met twice previously in a final, and both meetings were last season, in the league final and cup final.
Trento takes part in the Super Cup for the sixth time. They won it twice: in 2011 in Cagliari against Cuneo and in 2013 in Trento against Macerata. Coach Stoytchev, who won it once, will come in this new season with a few changes in his roster but with players as talented as ever. One of the big name of the club is Simone Giannelli, MVP of the league final last season and coming off a bronze medal in the European Championships in which he was named best setter of the competition.
As for Modena, this will be its third participation. They won it once back in 1997 in Naples. The team led by coach Pupo Dall’Olio had defeated the Cuneo squad of coach Silvano Prandi. In 2002, they were beaten 3-0 at home by Cuneo with coach Angelo Lorenzetti at the helm just like today. This summer Modena registered the arrival of Brazilian middle blocker Lucas Saatkamp and Serbian spiker Milos Nikic. French spiker Earvin Ngapeth is back from the European Championships with a gold medal around his neck thanks to the victory over Slovenia in the final, which made it a double following the triumph in the World League.
Once again there will be the Video Check System, but never before had it been that highly efficient: overall 26 cameras will cover the court, the net as well as the deflections of the players on the Mikasa MVA200 balls. The fans will be able to see the replays both in the gym and at home thanks to the giant screens set in the PalaPanini arena and to the Rai Sport 1.
Besides Italy, the Super Cup will be broadcasted live or near-live in the USA and Canada (beIN Sport USA), Greece (OTE), Poland (Sportklub Polonia), Romania (Romtelecom/Dolce Sport HD), Serbia, Kosovo, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Montenegro (Sportklub) and live worldwide on the betting sites thanks to IMG.
The Giacomo Sintini association will renew its partnership with the Italian Volleyball League. His fund gathering is currently helping to build a special department for parents and kids at the Paediatric Oncology hospital of Modena.

The Del Monte Super Cup 2015 comes really soon, there won’t be much to take in terms of level of play and tactics. It will mainly be based on the competitive spirit the players will show. Having said that, we will do our very best to win this trophy, it would be nice to start this season with a smile”.
Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach DHL Modena): “It’s fantastic to start the season with such an important game, I can see the boys are extremely motivated. We’ll play at home, the atmosphere is going to be brilliant, I think this is the typical game in which you don’t need to motivate the players. We will surely give everything we have to win this first trophy of the season. Starting with a victory would be great, we have a very long and fascinating season ahead of us”.
