Once again the home team came out on top in this SuperLega final. The fans that filled the sold-out PalaTrento arena enjoyed seeing their team dispose of Modena in straight sets and regain the lead in the series (2-1). They are now just one game from celebrating their fourth league title in history, their first chance will come on Wednesday night in Modena but Lorenzetti’s team will do everything possible to push the series to a deciding game 5.

Coach Stoytchev had asked a performance made of enthusiasm and sacrifice and that’s exactly what he got from his players. And the Bulgarian head coach added his daring touch by lining up young Giannelli from the start. And the 19-year-old responded with a superb performance, handling his spikers to perfection and adding three blocks and one ace. He was not surprisingly named MVP of the encounter. Things had not started that brightly for the home side, who was trailing 14-18 but led by Djuric they worked hard to get back in it. Trentino’s blocks and serves were key too. Trento collected 8 aces, 3 each from Lanza and Kaziyski. Modena made too many mistakes on the serve, though they had 9 aces, while Petric had a poor night.

Simone Giannelli (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “I did not expect to start but in recent years I have always worked hard to be able to help the team, even in those unexpected cases. We did a great job of never giving up on anything, especially in the first set when the situation was getting difficult. It’s been a team victory, we really played as a united group, but now we have to focus on game 4 in Modena, which will surely be even tougher”.

Nemanja Petric (Parmareggio Modena): “Trento played better than us in every area of the game, especially on the serve. They surprised us more than once, they showed great character. Congratulation to them but we won’t give up. We’re obviously disappointed with the defeat, but we have to look ahead and prepare the coming game which becomes vital”
