ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO – PARMAREGGIO MODENA 3-2 (23-25, 17-25, 29-27, 28-26, 15-12) – ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 21, Birarelli 13, Zygadlo 1, Giannelli 4, Lanza 9, Solé 5, Mazzone, Colaci (L), Djuric 21, Fedrizzi, Burgsthaler. DNP Nemec, Thei. Coach. Stoytchev.

Trento made the most of the home court advantage in the opening game of the final. Hardly 48 hours after their tough tie-break win over Perugia in the deciding game 3 of the semi-finals, the regular season winners remained unbeaten on home soil at the end of a real battle which lasted five sets. Deservedly 2-0 up thanks to a very accurate attack and blocking, Modena seemed surprised by the energetic resources Trento found to get back in the game and win the first point of the series. In the most difficult moments, they fought back and clinched tight third and fourth sets. Then in the tie-break the push from the home crowd allied with a superb Kaziyski (MVP well assisted by Djuric, they scored 21 apiece) led the hosts towards a difficult but extremely valuable victory. Giannelli came on at the end of the second set and was outstanding. He was composed throughout and played with personality and accuracy. Modena fed off the efficiency of position 4 (Petric and Ngapeth combined for 59 points) but they paid the price for a lack of alternatives in the long run. Besides, they made too many mistakes at the net (16). Game 2 in Modena on Wednesday.
Radostin Stoytchev (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “Credit to the team for snatching this victory. The players have done it all, I have nothing to do with this one. They have been extraordinary, they managed to get back in a game that looked doomed and win it on a splendid come-back. We were tired following our five sets played on Friday night against Perugia, but once the adrenaline got in their bodies, they were back playing their volleyball. The things I told Giannelli before he came on was just to play his game and stay composed”.
Angelo Lorenzetti (Parmareggio Modena): “Trento did a better job than us, especially on the counter and in handling the float serve. We objectively handled poorly the emotional side, we have to get better in that regard for the second game of the final”.
