Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia – Top Volley Latina

Both teams did the job on the road, just like it happened in regular season, and now it’s all down to this third encounter in Civitanova. The winner will start its semi-final series against Modena on April 25. Game 2 was a roller coaster, Treia went twice ahead but Latina kept fighting back. But in a tight tie-break, the visitors eventually earned a trip back home. Jiri Kovar had an excellent game, he finished top scorer with 16 points. Podrascanin added 14 and Fei 13 (he had come on for Sabbi). As for coach Blengini, he’s been having some bad luck of late, he had to make do without both middle blockers Semenzato and Van De Voorde (they will miss Wednesday’s game too), and he lost spiker Skrimov during the game, though he was well substituted by Rauwerdink. Still, these are important pieces missing, Van De Voorde was no less than the best blocker in regular season (he had 3 in Game 1). Still, be sure Starovic and co will be ready for another battle.

This season: 1 each in regular season (both 3-1 road winners, first Latina then Treia). Treia won 3-0 in the Italian cup quarter-finals

Natale Monopoli (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “We needed to win at all cost, and game 3 will be the same. It was tough to turn things around in Latina but we never gave up and did it. But let’s not forget we haven’t done anything yet. We’re facing another battle on Wednesday in Civitanova. We’ll need to be composed and determined to beat them again”.

Andrea Rossi (Top Volley Latina): “This will be a real battle just like the last two we’ve played. We know what’s at stake and I think Treia will be aggressive from the start. We’ll try to make it hard for them like we’ve always done and try our best”.

Sir Safety Perugia – Calzedonia Verona

Perugia came away from Verona with a crucial win to tie the series. Perugia dominated the first two sets and managed to contain Verona’s come-back in the fourth. Now game 3 will decide who will take on Trento in the semi-finals. Fromm and Atanasijevic were the main architects of the triumph in Verona (19 and 18 points respectively). De Cecco was outstanding too, he scored 6 aces and 3 blocks. Verona might have started off game 2 a bit too tense, they made numerous mistakes, which did not allow them to get a flow to their game. Once they limited their unforced errors, they got back in it, thanks as well to a superb Gasparini (19 points), and they went very close to obtain a tie-breaker. Verona has already achieved its best position and the most points in regular season (5^th with 47 points) and now they will try to make history by reaching its first league semi-finals in history.
