Trentino wins in Modena
PARMAREGGIO MODENA – ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO 1-3 (24-26, 18-25, 25-17, 24-26) PARMAREGGIO MODENA: Mossa De Rezende 3, Sala 1, Petric 21, Boninfante, Casadei 1, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 19, Piano 5, Verhees 3, Vettori 17. DNP Donadio, Ishikawa, Kovacevic. Coach. Lorenzetti.
ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 19, Nelli 3, Birarelli 11, Zygadlo 1, Nemec 9, Giannelli, Lanza 18, Solé 8, Mazzone, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi. DNP Thei, Burgsthaler. Coach. Stoytchev.
There was the kind of atmosphere that gives you shivers down your spine in the PalaPanini arena, but Trento came back from Modena with a four-set victory anyway. This was the game with first place at stake and Trentino now stands above the rest as it stopped Modena’s run of 11 games unbeaten at home.
The blocking (10) was the difference as Trento took a 2-0 lead, and Kaziyski was doing the damage in attack (MVP with 19 points). But Modena dominated the third set and was close to push the encounter to the tie-break as it led 20-17 in the fourth. Eventually, Trento showed a lot of character, a run of serve from Kaziyski and some spikes from Lanza (18 points, 62%) led Trento to a 9-4 run and the victory.
Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Parmareggio Modena): “The first set was played at a high level, we lost 26-24 but could have won it too. They have been the better side in the second set, we’re disappointed that we got stuck a few times in dig and at the net. These games are useful to get better, we wanted to win and we could have done it, we could have gone to the tie-break, but that wasn’t to be, let’s move on and stay confident”.
Radostin Stoytchev (coach Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “We deservedly won a very difficult game against a top quality team. We did a great job of handling the ball in the clutch time. We’ll come back from Modena with that important first place, but we cannot relax now”.
