CALZEDONIA VERONA – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-14, 25-15) CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 11, Coscione 3, Pesaresi (L), Gitto 1, Gasparini 20, Deroo 11, White 2, Bellei, Borgogno, Sander 13, Anzani 12. DNP Blasi, Centomo. Coach. Giani.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 3, Noda Blanco 8, Sket 13, Del Vecchio, Spirito, Romiti (L), Bossi 5, Blagojevic, Hierrezuelo 4, Porcelli (L), Despaigne Jurquin 3, Torres 16, Piscopo. Coach. Di Pinto.

Verona kept its winning streak going at the expense of Molfetta. It was a hard-fought game for the first two sets while the next two were a run-over. Verona showed a lot of quality in attack with 56%, while they tallied 14 blocks and 9 aces. No less than five of its players finished in double figures. And Coscione orchestrated things to perfection all game long. MVP: Simone Anzani (Calzedonia Verona).

Mitja Gasparini (Calzedonia Verona): “We expected a tough game and you could see in the first two sets that the game could have been tight. Then we played brilliant volleyball in the third, without making any mistakes, and we got off to a strong start in the fourth which enabled us to seal it with a good margin”.

Vincenzo di Pinto (coach Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “We struggled in reception, and we just couldn’t cope from the third set while Verona was really good. The rhythm was really high in the first two sets, but once we found it hard to receive the float serves of the hosts, we just lost it”.

CMC RAVENNA – TONAZZO PADOVA 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-22)

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 5, Ricci 6, Cavanna 1, Jeliazkov 3, Koumentakis 7, Goi (L), Zanatta Buiatti 11, Cester 1, Bari (L), Mc Kibbin, Cebulj 19. DNP Zappoli, Gabriele. Coach. Kantor.

TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 3, Orduna 1, Giannotti 13, Balaso (L), Gozzo, Rosso 16, Volpato 1, Garghella, Aguillard 7, Milan, Quiroga 7. DNP Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.

Ravenna’s progress seen in the last games in Modena and Belgrade turned into victory over Padova. That put an end to a five-game losing streak in the league.  Klemen Cebulj was the star man and was named MVP, while the young Ricci made further steps forward (71% in attack). The pair McKibbin-Jeliazkov proved clutch at the end of sets too.

Waldo Kantor (coach CMC Ravenna): “Eventually, a nice victory. We had been waiting for this and that was well-deserved. We might have been able to do better in dig, where Goi did well, but Padova is a good team who made it hard for all its opponents, so credit to the team for overcoming them”.

Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “Unfortunately we made too many silly mistakes in important moments of the game. That’s why we failed to win even a set, something we definitely could have done. Ravenna was more composed and determined in those important moments”.

REVIVRE MILANO – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA 0-3 (27-29, 20-25, 24-26)

REVIVRE MILANO: Bencz 8, Kauliakamoa Jr, Temponi Araujo, Patriarca 6, Rizzo (L), Mattera, De Togni 4, Dos Santos 15, Veres 10, Preti, Valsecchi 2. DNP Bermudez, Cerbo. Coach. Maranesi.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti, Fromm 9, Paolucci 2, De Cecco 1, Barone 7, Tzioumakas 2, Beretta 8, Vujevic, Atanasijevic 16, Fanuli (L), Sunder 1, Maruotti 4. DNP Giovi. Coach. Grbic.

Everything went according to the predictions of the eve. Perugia celebrated a third consecutive win coming back from Milan with a 3-0 score. Milan gave it a fight in the first and third set but they remain without a single win in this second half of season.

MVP: Aleksandar Atanasijevic (Sir Safety Perugia).

Marco Maranesi (coach Revivre Milano): “We played a good game, shame we could not push it further. I feel the first referee lacked personality. As for our game, we did well in the block-dig area, we limited their attack, while we had our usual problems on the serve”.

Gabriele Maruotti (Sir Safety Perugia): “Milan tried its best to stay close in the first and third set and they almost did it. We did a great job of turning things around with our serve. Sealing this in three sets and taking three points is an important result for us, especially considering the Champions League game we have ahead. We’re glad with this win because it came with the contribution of some who usually play less”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA – VERO VOLLEY MONZA 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Fei, Henno (L), Parodi, Paparoni (L), Stankovic 9, Kovar 13, Sabbi 25, Monopoli, Kurek 15, Baranowicz 8, Podrascanin 8. DNP Bonacic, Shumov. Coach. Giuliani.

VERO VOLLEY MONZA: Gotsev 14, Tiberti, Galliani 8, Padura Diaz 6, De Pandis (L), Jovovic 2, Vigil Gonzalez 9, Botto 10, Wang 4, Bonetti 2. DNP Procopio, Elia, Botin. Coach. Vacondio.

Treia had the better of Monza and made it seven heaven. Besides, it allow them to make the most of Trento being rested this weekend. Treia is now just two points from second place Trentino, while they’re six from Modena. Only the second set was tight as Monza was without their middle blocker Elia. MVP: Giulio Sabbi (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia).

Alberto Giuliani (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche): “I have to say I did not like the second set, especially our attitude in dig, and another negative note was Kurek coming out just before the end. But at the same time, we’re starting to see some progress, like at the net for example. Sabbi is back at his best after a so-so game. Next is Perugia, an important game for our position, we’ll have a full week to work on it. Our goal is to win every game we have until the end of the regular season, then we’ll just see where we end up”.

Williams Padura Diaz (Vero Volley Monza): “We’re a bit disappointed with the way the fourth set finished, we have probably been too soft which prevented us to push Treia to the tie-break. There’s certainly no shame in losing against the Italian champions, but they were not having their best day today, and unfortunately we did not make the most of it”.

COPRA PIACENZA – TOP VOLLEY LATINA 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 25-20, 17-25, 15-10)

COPRA PIACENZA: Alletti 7, Marra (L), Poey 23, Papi 1, Ter Horst 1, Da Silva Pedreira Junior (L), Massari 11, Zlatanov 24, Ostapenko 2, Tencati 3, Kohut 2, Rodrigues Tavares 2. DNP Meoni. Coach. Camperi.

TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink 1, Sottile 1, Skrimov 15, Pellegrino, Tailli (L), Van De Voorde 11, Rossi 1, Starovic 24, Semenzato 3, Urnaut 19. DNP Ferenciac, Davis. Coach. Blengini.

Led by coach Camperi, who took over from the sacked Radici, Piacenza went back to winning ways. Nothing had gone for them since December 26 but after 8 long rounds, Zlatanov and co did it and kept a slim hope of going to the playoffs. Piacenza deserve praise for never putting their head down in the negative moments and remain composed and united. MVP: Jacopo Massari (Copra Piacenza).

Marco Camperi (coach Copra Piacenza): “We needed a positive outing to put an end to this poor run. In the last few days, we have worked on team play. It was crucial to pull together in the difficult moments. Now we regained a bit of life, we can think about the playoffs, which Meoni described as a very steep climb. In the first set, we had agreed to limit our mistakes on the serve, but given what happened in the end we decided to hit it hard and good things came our way”.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Top Volley Latina): “It’s been a game with a lot of ups and downs. We lacked consistency and that has happened to us a lot recently. We have not been clinical, we have not played at our best. We threw it away at the end of the second set with inaccuracies that got them back in it. I expected them to be up for it  and solid through the tough times. They really showed a competitive spirit”.
