Perugia’s inspirational run in the Champions League continued with a 3-0 win over Jastrzebski Wegiel and a qualification into the playoffs 6. The Italians had already won the first leg 3-2 in Poland and now they’ve secured a place among the best 6 teams in Europe.

Once again in European action, Perugia was organised, spectacular, clinical. Led by MVP Beretta and his blocks (7), the spikes of Atanasijevic and Fromm, the flashes of brilliance of captain Vujevic, the inventions of De Cecco, the first-time hit by Buti and the digs by Giovi, Perugia led from start to finish in each of the three sets. In the next round, Perugia will meet the winner of Treia versus Belchatow.

Nikola Grbic (coach Sir Safety Perugia): “I am happy with the way the game went. This is a very important win. We knew we had done a great job in Poland last week, but we had to start from scratch tonight, it was important not to lose our focus. This is a great achievement for us”.

Roberto PIazza (coach Jastrzebski Wegiel): “This was one of our worst game since the beginning of the year while our opponents had one of their best. We started off too tense, the spirit was not the one you’d expect to face such an important Champions League game, I’m sorry it went like this”.
