In front of 2400 fans in Chieti, Vibo Valentia won the Serie A2 Italian Cup, its second in its history following the triumph in 2003 against Lamezia. Vibo played two days of top quality volleyball, first by knocking out the hosts of Ortona and then by snatching it at the death against Potenza Picena in the tie-break. Vibo did a good job of staying in it even when Potenza seemed to have the game under control. Spiker Bruno Zanuto was named MVP as he scored 17 points.

Luca Monti (coach Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “This great victory will give confidence to the players, who will be determined to get good results in the league too”.

Bruno Zanuto (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “That was a beautiful victory in a very tough encounter, both physically and mentally. The end was thrilling, we managed to stay close and in the end we clinched it. Congratulations to Potenza Picena too, it’s a very strong team”.

Luca Presta (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “A incredible victory. I am really happy with the way it went. Now we’ll go and celebrate with the boys”.

Filippo Vedovotto (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “Superb win. We did not play at our best but in the end we managed to snatch it against an excellent Potenza team”.

Simmaco Tartaglione (B-Chem Potenza Picena): “So disappointed. That was a great show that ended in defeat. We threw the game away in the clutch time. They had a bit of luck on a couple of plays while we did not do well on the counter”.

Alberto Polo (B-Chem Potenza Picena): “We could have limited our mistakes in the fourth and sealed it. The tie-break was very close and that’s the way it went. Still, I remain satisfied with what we have shown so far because we proved we could give a game to anyone”.
