Piacenza was close to celebrate a victory that has been missing since December 26 but in the end had to surrender at the tie-break against Città di Castello. Zlatanov and co had a superb first set, but Corvetta became instrumental in the come-back of the visitors as he distributed brilliantly to his spikers, especially Randazzo (MVP, 28 points, 3 blocks) and Maric (23 points, 3 aces and 3 blocks). Piacenza had a chance to win it in the fourth when it was tied at 24 but Castello eventually prevailed 25-27. And the tie-break was tight too (13-13).

Davide Marra (Copra Piacenza): “We probably needed to be sharper in the clutch time in order to seal it before Città di Castello”.

Luigi Randazzo (Altotevere Città di Castello Sansepolcro): “We believed till the very end, we have worked so hard this week, we really wanted that work to pay off and we got the win. The team is playing better, I can only be satisfied”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA – CMC RAVENNA 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Fei 2, Henno (L), Parodi 6, Stankovic 8, Kovar, Sabbi 19, Monopoli, Kurek 18, Baranowicz 2, Podrascanin 10. DNP Paparoni, Bonacic, Shumov. Coach. Giuliani.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 2, Ricci 1, Cavanna 2, Zappoli 2, Gabriele 5, Jeliazkov 1, Koumentakis 2, Goi (L), Zanatta Buiatti 17, Cester 7, Bari (L), Mc Kibbin 1, Cebulj 17. Coach. Kantor.

Big crowd, big points for Treia in its debut game in its new arena in Civitanova. That was a second sold-out encounter following the one in the Champions League on Tuesday. The Italian Champions won 3-1 over Ravenna and stay close to the top two teams, Modena and Trento, in the table. Treia had Jiri Kovar back in the squad after three weeks out due to an ankle injury. Bartosz Kurek was voted MVP: he scored 18 points at 75% in attack, with 2 aces and 1 block.

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “There was a lot of positive in this game. First of all, I am glad I have all my players back and that we managed to do fine both in the league and Champions League while we had injuries. Going through in the Champions League was huge. We still have a lot of work to do, a few things in the third were not good. We lost it even if that’s the set in which we served better. We have margin for improvement in every fundamental, we need to make that last step that will bring the team to its best. But we know that to make that last step, we need a lot of focus and sacrifices. And we’re making them. Going back to tonight’s game, that was really amazing to play in front of this crowd”.

Waldo Kantor (coach CMC Ravenna): “We made a lot of mistakes. I’m disappointed we did not make it harder for them. They played well, but we helped them a lot. We can’t afford to miss 25 serves in one game. In the third however, we stayed close and found the decisive spurt to win it. This is the positive aspect from tonight’s game. Renan and Cavanna played well, and Cebulj proved he was an important spiker for us”.

MODENA VOLLEY – REVIVRE MILANO 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-20)

MODENA VOLLEY: Mossa De Rezende 5, Sala 1, Petric 13, Boninfante, Casadei, Rossini (L), Piano 8, Verhees 11, Ishikawa 11, Vettori 12. DNP Donadio, Kovacevic. Coach. Lorenzetti.

REVIVRE MILANO: Bencz 9, Bermudez 1, Temponi Araujo, Patriarca 3, Rizzo (L), Mattera 3, De Togni 4, Dos Santos 8, Veres 9, Preti 1. DNP Kauliakamoa Jr, Cerbo, Valsecchi. Coach. Maranesi.

They knew it was not going to be as easy as in the first match, and indeed Bruno and co found it harder to beat Milan, but they still sealed it in straight sets with a convincing performance. MVP: Nemanja Petric

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Modena Volley): “I think tonight’s game was an important game, extremely important. The boys have been working extremely hard of late, I had asked them to do more in attack and they did a great job. Ishikawa confirmed he was an important player, we can count on him. Yuki has done well, it’s important for us and for him”.

Marco Maranesi (coach Revivre Milano): “Useless to hide how disappointed I am. We played an excellent game but have to go home with a defeat against a top level team. We played with fighting spirit and character, but it’s definitely not in Modena that we could hope to get points. Still, that performance leaves us with a positive feeling for the future”.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – TONAZZO PADOVA 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-21)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 3, Fromm 12, De Cecco, Giovi (L), Barone, Beretta 8, Vujevic 11, Atanasijevic 13, Sunder 1. DNP Paolucci, Tzioumakas, Fanuli, Maruotti. Coach. Grbic.

TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 8, Orduna 1, Giannotti 8, Balaso (L), Gozzo, Rosso 8, Volpato, Garghella, Aguillard 5, Milan, Quiroga 11. DNP Vianello, Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.

No surprise as Perugia disposed of Padova in straight sets in front of 2500 fans. Thanks to this victory, Perugia moves above Verona in fourth place in the league table before next week’s clash between the two teams. The hosts were guided by the class and tactical masterpiece of captain Vujevic (MVP). There was the usual performance in attack from Atanasijevic and Fromm, who combined for 25 points, while Giovi shined with some spectacular digs. On the other hand, Padova made too many mistakes (27 unforced errors in three sets). Only Quiroga finished in double figures for them. After Trento, Modena and Treia, that was the last one of a crazy run for Padova.

Andrea Giovi (Sir Safety Perugia): “Our goal was to win it and we were solid. We worked hard this week and I think our decision making was good, we played a good organized volleyball, focused on what we had to do. I think that was a deserved victory”.

Mattia Rosso (Tonazzo Padova): “We had played well of late, but today we had a poor performance, but credit to Perugia too. We might have lost all the same but we could definitely have played better. We will now start our second half of season with more realistic chances to take points and move up the table”.

TOP VOLLEY LATINA – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-18)

TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink, Sottile 1, Skrimov 9, Pellegrino, Tailli (L), Van De Voorde 14, Rossi, Starovic 15, Semenzato 4, Urnaut 17. DNP Ferenciac, Davis. Coach. Blengini.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 3, Noda Blanco 6, Sket 16, Del Vecchio, Spirito 1, Romiti (L), Bossi, Blagojevic, Hierrezuelo 4, Despaigne Jurquin 1, Torres 12, Piscopo 4. DNP Porcelli. Coach. Di Pinto.

Latina won the game with the seventh place at stake at the expense of Molfetta. A key moment was the end of the first set when the hosts made a superb come-back from 24-20 down to win it. Important win for Latina who leaves Molfetta six points behind. Latina built its success on its excellent blocking (15), as the Belgium star Van de Voorde (MVP) had seven.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Top Volley Latina): “When you win a first set like that, even if you trail in the other sets it’s all easier mentally. We proved once again we knew how to fight and do what’s needed when it matters. We have to keep showing this kind of character. This is an extremely valuable 3-0 for us against a team that was doing extremely well. And these are three big points in our chase of a playoff spot”.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (coach Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “The first set lost had a big influence. We’ve been asking more and more of ourselves but we made it hard for ourselves by losing the first set like that, and we might have been a bit too fancy on a couple of plays. After that, things changed and we found it hard against a much better and more ambitious team than us”.
