VERO VOLLEY MONZA – MODENA VOLLEY 0-3 (24-26, 25-27, 20-25)

VERO VOLLEY MONZA: Elia 8, Gotsev 5, Botin 1, Tiberti, Galliani 6, Padura Diaz 17, De Pandis (L), Jovovic 2, Vigil Gonzalez, Botto 13, Bonetti. DNP Procopio, Wang. All. Vacondio.

MODENA VOLLEY: Mossa De Rezende 2, Sala, Petric 19, Boninfante, Rossini (L), Piano 8, Verhees 7, Ishikawa 14, Donadio, Vettori 13. DNP Casadei. Coach. Lorenzetti.

No points but Monza played a good game in front of over 3000 fans against Modena. The hosts gave Lorenzetti’s men a good fight, confirming all the good things seen in previous rounds. Modena was without Ngapeth, who had fever, but could count on a superb Petric (19 points and MVP). Ishikawa shined too. This was Modena’s fifth consecutive win.

Oreste Vacondio (Coach Vero Volley Monza): “We lacked a bit of composure at the end of the first two sets. We reached 24 first in the second set only to let them back in it and win it. They were without Ngapeth but Ishikawa substituted him brilliantly, he had a perfect game. We knew how strong was Modena and how difficult it would be. We lacked a bit of experience but we had a go at it. I have to congratulate my boys, they played a great game”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Modena Volley): “We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. They play excellent dig, they really don’t give much away. What made the difference? Very little, we had next to nothing more than them, and you can see that in the first two sets won by the minimum margin. I am happy with the result and the performance because I know we’ve been doing some good work of late”.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA – ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 22-20) – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 8, Noda Blanco 12, Sket 24, Del Vecchio, Spirito, Romiti (L), Bossi 8, Blagojevic 1, Hierrezuelo 9, Torres 22, Piscopo. DNP Despaigne Jurquin. Coach. Di Pinto.

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 15, Nelli, Birarelli 12, Zygadlo, Nemec 13, Giannelli 5, Lanza 25, Solé 14, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi 2. DNP Thei, Mazzone, Burgsthaler. Coach. Stoytchev.

The PalaPoli arena was as colourful as it can be, ready for a special one. And once again, Molfetta was the giant killer of the league, defeating the league leaders at the tie-break. Setter Hierrezuelo was outstanding and named MVP. He registered 5 blocks, a total of 9 points, and the winning point of the game. Trento did not play to its usual standard, Kaziyski had an under par performance too. He did score 15 but at 30% in attack.

In the tie-break, coach Stoytchev called a time-out at 10 all but a spike out from Lanza and an ace from Candellaro soon made it 13-10 for Molfetta. But Trento had not said its last word and drew level at 14. Then a long run of missed serves took place, as the two clubs kept cancelling out each other’s match points. That is until Hierrezuelo’s attack gave the host the victory.

Maurice Torres (Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “We got off to a poor start in the first set but in the long run we showed great fighting spirit and won a superb and intense game. This is a terrific team, the crowd is exceptional, we want to keep playing like this and add to those two important points. In Latina, we will meet a strong team, but I will do everything to play well and win for my team”.

Massimo Colaci (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “We gave it a good fight, we did everything we could to win it. We’re coming off a difficult and intense run of games. We’re disappointed with the loss but Molfetta played very well today. I congratulate them on this excellent performance”.

TONAZZO PADOVA – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA 1-3 (26-24, 20-25, 20-25, 22-25) TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 11, Orduna 5, Giannotti 10, Balaso (L), Gozzo, Rosso 9, Volpato 10, Garghella, Milan 6, Quiroga 14. DNP Aguillard, Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Fei, Henno, Paparoni (L), Stankovic 7, Sabbi 19, Monopoli, Bonacic 21, Kurek 19, Baranowicz 4, Podrascanin 10. DNP Di Silvestre, Shumov. Coach. Giuliani.

Three thousand supporters came to watch Padova host the Italian champions. Rested in the last round, Giuliani’s men wanted to bounce back from their last games, a 3-1 league defeat against Verona and the cup semi-final lost against Modena, who then won the trophy. Without Parodi (Fever) and Kovar out, the visitors found inspiration in Kurek and Bonacic (MVP).

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “Today, we knew it was going to be hard. We had to make some changes in the line-up but the boys did a great job to get organized. That was an opportunity for Bonacic to get experience and that was a reward for the consistent work he does in training. We can’t afford to lose any more points that would keep us away from the top two. This win will give us a boost too”

Sebastiano Milan (Tonazzo Padova): “We tried our best till the end, but we lacked that extra spark to get points out of it. I like the fighting spirit, determination that we put in training every day. We have to look ahead with confidence even if in this SuperLega, there’s never anything easy, especially for a young team like ours that has to get better”.
