Ravenna played four games in ten days, three tie-breaks. Kantor’s men had very little left in the tank but they made it through the Città di Castello test in the fifth set and got the victory. Città di Castello looked revitalized thanks to the arrival of new coach Polidori and an outstanding Maric, lined up as outside hitter and well served by Corvetta.
Thanks to Mengozzi on the serve and Renan in attack, Ravenna sprinted off the starting blocks in the tie-break (5-1). But then the reception started to falter and the visitors tied it at 9 all. Cebulj made it 11-9 for Ravenna who got some clutch blocks to seal the encounter.
Waldo Kantor (coach CMC Ravenna): “Too many mistakes on the serve, even if it’s true that when the serve went it we made it hard for their reception. But we had too many problems in reception ourselves, and we wasted some counter attacks. We might have been a bit tired physically and mentally after so many games played. That’s why it’s important we got out of this with a win”.
Fausto Polidori (coach Altotevere Città di Castello-Sansepolcro): “Shame we had this poor start to the fifth set that got us in crisis. But overall I am satisfied with what the team did in every fundamental. I think we could be on the right track”.
