SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 3-0 (25-13, 29-27, 25-22)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 9, Fromm 10, De Cecco 4, Giovi (L), Barone, Beretta 10, Vujevic 6, Atanasijevic 19, Sunder. DNP Paolucci, Fanuli, Maruotti. Coach. Grbic.

Perugia made it into its second consecutive final four of the Italian Cup by sweeping Verona 3-0 in a remake of last year’s quarter-final. Beaten this weekend by Modena, Perugia reacted with pride. Coach Grbic had made a couple of changes: he sent captain Vujevic on with Fromm as 4. The Serbian star had six points and an excellent 62% in reception. The usual Atanasijevic did the damage in attack with 4 aces and a total of 19 points. However, middle blocker Beretta was named MVP with 10 points (100%) among which 4 blocks.

Thomas Beretta (Sir Safety Perugia): “This is exactly what we needed after Saturday’s defeat. We could not have bounced back in a better way than this 3-0 win and qualification for the final four. It could not have gone nay better for us today”.

Nicola Pesaresi (Calzedonia Verona): “It’s been a bad game, we know it’s a great team but we’ve never been able to keep it tight. We’re disappointed, we have the feeling we did not give everything though Perugia played brilliantly”.

MODENA VOLLEY – CMC RAVENNA 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-22)

MODENA VOLLEY: Mossa De Rezende 5, Sala 8, Petric 14, Casadei, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 10, Piano 9, Ishikawa, Vettori 14. DNP Boninfante, Verhees, Donadio. Coach. Lorenzetti.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 3, Cavanna, Zappoli 6, Gabriele, Jeliazkov 2, Goi (L), Zanatta Buiatti 12, Cester 5, Bari (L), Mc Kibbin, Cebulj 8. DNP Ricci, Koumentakis. Coach. Kantor.

This was game number one thousand in the PalaPanini arena and it all began with an emotional moment: a standing ovation for former Modena star Waldo Kantor, now the coach at Verona. The hosts dominated the game and won it in straight sets. Modena will play Treia in the semi-finals.

MVP: Luca Vettori.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Modena Volley): “I can only be satisfied with what the boys did today. The knock-out games are never easy to deal with and the pressure is high. But the boys have been focused and extremely accurate. Now we’re up against Treia, a great team, we have maximum respect for them, but no fear”.

Stefano Mengozzi (CMC Ravenna): “We knew tonight’s game would be a very tough one. Modena is a great team, we tried our best, but their quality was obvious. But we came out of the cup heads high”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA – TOP VOLLEY LATINA 3-0 (25-21, 28-26, 25-21)

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Fei 1, Henno (L), Parodi 15, Stankovic 2, Sabbi 14, Monopoli, Shumov 3, Kurek 13, Baranowicz 1, Podrascanin 12. DNP Paparoni, Kovar, Bonacic. Coach. Giuliani.

TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink 8, Sottile 2, Skrimov 2, Tailli (L), Van De Voorde 3, Davis, Rossi 2, Starovic 24, Semenzato 2, Urnaut 8. DNP Ferenciac, Pellegrino. Coach. Blengini.

Treia bounced back from its latest league defeat by going through to the Italian Cup semi-finals. The Italian champions got rid of Latina in the quarters, the only team that had beaten them at home in the last two years. Surprisingly, Blengini could line-up Sabbi, who recovered from his ankle injury in just 72 hours. He had an excellent game with 14 points (61%), seven of which in the opening set at 67%. At 23-20, another positive moment, the return of Alessandro Fei a month from the injury picked up against Belgorod in the Champions League. Parodi was outstanding with 15 total points, 4 blocks, 48% in reception on 27 plays, he was named MVP.

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “It’s been a very different game from the one we lost in the league. Tonight we have been very aggressive and focused. I was extremely pleased to have my full squad, even if not everybody was fully fit. But seeing Fei back in action a month on and Sabbi after Saturday’s sprain was great. When I see the image of Saturday’s injury, I really feel it’s a miracle to have Sabbi playing. We built that team so that we could change both the setter and outside hitter, now we have those alternatives back. Tonight, we only had a little lapse in the second set, but then we served with patience again and then we got the victory in the third. I like knock-out games because b
